SMOK Nord and RPM Coil Compatibility Chart: Which Coils Fit

With SMOK Nord and RPM devices, the pod decides the coil, not the device name. Most of these devices use one of six SMOK coil families: Nord, RPM, RPM 2, RPM 3, RPM 4 and LP2. Many kits ship with two pods, and SMOK lists each pod for one family. The Nord 4, Nord X and IPX 80 take RPM 2 or RPM coils depending on the pod, the Nord 5, Nord GT, RPM 5 and RPM 85/100 take RPM 3 coils, and the Nord 6’s empty pod takes RPM 4 coils. The chart below covers 21 device lines, checked against SMOK’s own pages.
How SMOK Nord and RPM coil compatibility works
SMOK’s coil family names don’t always match the device you own. A Nord 4 runs RPM 2 and RPM coils, and a Nord 6 runs coils called RPM 4. What decides fit is the pod. SMOK lists each pod for one coil family, and many Nord and RPM kits ship with two pods so you can switch families. These are the six main families on SMOK’s pages (two outliers, LP1 and RGC, are covered further down):
- Nord coils: the original Nord range, from Nord 1.4Ω regular to Nord 0.6Ω mesh, plus Nord PRO-Meshed coils.
- RPM coils: RPM Mesh 0.4Ω, Triple 0.6Ω, Quartz 1.2Ω, SC 1.0Ω, MTL Mesh 0.3Ω, DC 0.8Ω MTL and the RPM RBA.
- RPM 2 coils: Mesh 0.16Ω, DC 0.25Ω, DC 0.6Ω MTL, Meshed 0.23Ω and Meshed 0.3Ω.
- RPM 3 coils: Meshed 0.15Ω and Meshed 0.23Ω.
- RPM 4 coils: Meshed 0.15Ω and Meshed 0.6Ω, for the Nord 6 Empty Pod.
- LP2 coils: Meshed 0.23Ω DL and DC 0.6Ω MTL, for the RPM 4 kit and the Nord 50W.
On dual-pod kits, SMOK labels the pods. The Nord 2 page says its two pods “can be distinguished by the corresponding text (“RPM”/ “NORD”) on the rubber plug.” None of the SMOK pages we checked says one family is “not compatible” with another. SMOK lists which coils each pod takes, and when a coil isn’t on a pod’s list, we don’t recommend it for that pod.
The SMOK Nord and RPM coil compatibility chart
Each row shows the pods SMOK lists for that device and the coil family each pod takes, from the device’s product page, SMOK’s official store, or SMOK’s coil and pod compatibility guide. Where a device has two pods, the coil families are listed in the same order as the pods. Device names link to the kit on Black Note where we carry it. Output is SMOK’s spec.

The six coil families, with SMOK's wattages
This table lists each family’s coils as SMOK names them, the wattage SMOK prints for each, and the pods SMOK lists them for. SMOK’s guide lists these coils in 5-packs, except the RPM RBA.
| Family | Coils and SMOK wattage | Pods SMOK lists | Shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nord | Regular 1.4Ω (max 12W), Ceramic 1.4Ω, Mesh-MTL 0.8Ω (max 16W), DC 0.8Ω MTL (16W), Regular DC 0.6Ω (20W recommended), Mesh 0.6Ω (max 25W); Nord PRO-Meshed 0.6Ω DL and 0.9Ω MTL | Nord, Nord 2 Nord Pod, Nord 50W Nord Pod, RPM Nord Pod (RPM40), Nord Pro | Nord coils |
| RPM | Quartz 1.2Ω (12W best), SC 1.0Ω (14W best), DC 0.8Ω MTL (16W), Triple 0.6Ω (25W), Mesh 0.4Ω (25W), MTL Mesh 0.3Ω (10W to 15W), RPM RBA | RPM pods of the Nord 2, Nord 4, Nord X, Nord 50W, RPM 2, RPM 4, RPM80, IPX 80, Thallo and SCAR; RPM Standard Pod (RPM40) | RPM coils |
| RPM 2 | DC 0.6Ω MTL (12W to 25W), Meshed 0.3Ω (25W to 35W, best 30W), DC 0.25Ω (30W to 50W), Meshed 0.23Ω (20W to 45W), Mesh 0.16Ω (25W to 50W, best 40W) | Nord C, RPM C, and the RPM 2 pods of the Nord 4, Nord X, RPM 2, RPM 85/100, IPX 80, Thallo and SCAR (each SMOK page lists a different set of RPM 2 resistances; see the gaps section) | RPM 2 coils |
| RPM 3 | Meshed 0.23Ω (20W to 45W), Meshed 0.15Ω (40W to 80W) | Nord 5, Nord GT, RPM 5, RPM 85/100 (RPM 3 Coil) pod | RPM 3 coils |
| RPM 4 | Meshed 0.6Ω (10W to 30W), Meshed 0.15Ω (30W to 60W), per the Nord 6 page’s power settings | Nord 6 Empty Pod (Top-Fill) | RPM 4 coils |
| LP2 | DC 0.6Ω MTL (15W to 25W), Meshed 0.23Ω DL (20W to 45W) | RPM 4 LP2 Pod, Nord 50W LP2 Pod, G-Priv Pod, Morph Pod-80 | LP2 coils |
Wattage here is per coil, as SMOK prints it. Your device’s own output range still applies: the Nord 5, Nord GT and RPM 5 are each rated 5W to 80W, the same top end SMOK gives the 0.15Ω RPM 3 coil.
Nord coils vs RPM coils vs RPM 2 coils
These three are the families shoppers mix up most, because so many devices take more than one of them. The short answer: each pod takes one family, and the pod is labeled.
- Nord coils go in Nord pods: the original Nord, the Nord 2 Nord Pod, the Nord 50W Nord Pod and the RPM40’s RPM Nord Pod. SMOK’s guide also lists them for the Nord Pro, Priv N19, Nord AIO, Vape Pen Nord 19 and 22, Stick N18, Alike and Fetch Mini.
- RPM coils go in RPM pods. The Nord X page says its RPM pod “is suitable for all RPM coils,” and the RPM 4 page says the same of the RPM 4 RPM Pod. The RPM80 page describes its RPM pod as “compatible with all RPM40 coils,” and SMOK’s guide lists that pod with RPM coils.
- RPM 2 coils go in RPM 2 pods. The Nord X page says its RPM 2 pod “is compatible with all RPM 2 coils.” The Nord C and RPM C have a single pod that takes RPM 2 coils.
Do RPM 2 coils fit the Nord 4? Yes, in the Nord 4 RPM 2 Pod. The Nord 4 kit ships with two 4.5mL pods, “one with an RPM 2 mesh coil and the other with an RPM mesh coil,” and SMOK sells Nord 4 pods in both versions. Use RPM coils in the RPM version. The same split applies to the Nord X pods, the IPX 80, the Thallo, the SCAR-P3 and P5, and the RPM 2 and RPM 2S.
Do RPM 2 coils fit the Nord 2? SMOK doesn’t list them. The Nord 2 pods come as an RPM Pod and a Nord Pod, and SMOK’s guide lists no RPM 2 pod for the Nord 2. For more on each device, see our Nord 2 review, Nord 4 review and Nord X review.
RPM 4 coils: listed for the Nord 6, not the RPM 4 kit
This is the naming trap in the lineup. SMOK’s RPM 4 coils (Meshed 0.15Ω and Meshed 0.6Ω) appear on the Nord 6 pages: the Nord 6 Empty Pod box reads “RPM 4 Coils Compatible,” and the Nord 6 page calls it “an empty pod with detachable coils.” The older RPM 4 kit is a different story. Its page lists an “RPM 4 LP2 Pod” that is “Compatible with two LP2 coils” and an “RPM 4 RPM Pod” that is “Compatible with all RPM coils.”
- Own a Nord 6? Buy RPM 4 coils for the top-fill Nord 6 Empty Pod. The side-fill Nord 6 Pod has a 0.4Ω Dual Core Dual Meshed coil built in, which SMOK says “is non-removeable,” so you replace the whole pod.
- Own an RPM 4 kit? Buy LP2 coils for the LP2 pod or RPM coils for the RPM pod.
SMOK doesn’t say whether RPM 4 coils fit the RPM 4 kit’s pods, so we don’t recommend it. On the Nord 6, SMOK’s page gives a power range for each coil: 30W to 60W for the 0.15Ω coil, 16W to 40W for the 0.4Ω pod and 10W to 30W for the 0.6Ω coil, within the device’s 5W to 80W range. Our Nord 6 review covers the device in more depth.
RPM 3 coils: Nord 5, Nord GT, RPM 5 and RPM 85/100
RPM 3 coils come in two resistances: Meshed 0.15Ω (40W to 80W) and Meshed 0.23Ω (20W to 45W), both labeled by SMOK as “Perfect for DL vaping.” Four device lines use them, each with its own pod:
- Nord 5: the Nord 5 pod holds 5mL (2mL in SMOK’s 2mL editions) and ships with the 0.15Ω coil installed.
- Nord GT: SMOK’s box for the Nord GT Empty Pod reads “COMPATIBLE WITH RPM 3 COILS” and lists a 5mL capacity.
- RPM 5 and RPM 5 Pro: the RPM 5 pod holds 6.5mL (2mL in the 2mL editions).
- RPM 85 and RPM 100: the kits ship with the RPM 85/100 Empty Pod (RPM 3 Coil), 6mL. SMOK also sells an RPM 85/100 Empty Pod (RPM 2 Coil) separately, “Compatible with RPM 2 Coils.” Our RPM 85/100 pods come in both versions.
The coils are shared, but SMOK lists a separate pod for each device line, so a Nord 5 pod is not listed for the Nord GT or RPM 5. For the devices themselves, see our Nord 5 review, Nord GT review, RPM 5 review and RPM 85 review.
Other SMOK devices that take Nord, RPM or LP2 coils
SMOK’s coil and pod compatibility guide lists more devices than the chart. We left these out of the chart because we didn’t check their product pages, but the guide states the coil family for each:
- Nord coils: Priv N19, Vape Pen Nord 19 and Nord 22, Nord AIO 19 and AIO 22, Stick N18, Alike (Alike Empty Nord Pod), Fetch Mini (Fetch Mini Empty Nord Pod).
- RPM coils: RPM Lite, Pozz X, Morph Pod-40, Stick R22, Alike (Alike Empty RPM Pod), Fetch Mini (Fetch Mini Empty RPM Pod), Fetch Pro (Fetch Pro RPM Pod).
- RPM 2 coils: G-Priv Pod and G-Priv Pro Pod (G-Priv pod empty RPM 2 pod).
- LP2 coils: G-Priv Pod and G-Priv Pro Pod (empty LP2 pod), Morph Pod-80 and Morph S Pod-80.
Two names that don’t follow the pattern: the RPM 25W uses LP1 coils, per its product page, not Nord or RPM coils. And the RPM80’s second pod, the RPM80 RGC Pod, takes RGC coils such as the RGC Conical Mesh 0.17Ω.
What SMOK's pages don't settle
We built this chart from SMOK’s own pages only, and a few of them disagree or leave gaps. Here’s where, and what we did about it:
- SMOK’s compatibility guide is out of date. It doesn’t list the Nord 6, Nord 5, Nord GT, Nord C, RPM C, RPM 85/100 or RPM 4 coils, and it lists RPM 3 coils only for the RPM 5. We used the product pages and SMOK’s store for those devices.
- The RPM 2 coil list varies by page. The guide lists 0.16Ω, 0.6Ω MTL and 0.25Ω. The Nord C and RPM 85/100 pages add a Meshed 0.23Ω, the RPM C page adds a Meshed 0.3Ω, and SMOK’s store lists 0.16Ω, 0.25Ω, 0.6Ω MTL and 0.3Ω. All are labeled RPM 2.
- LP2 resistances differ. The guide lists an LP2 Meshed 0.4Ω coil; the RPM 4 and Nord 50W pages show only the 0.23Ω and 0.6Ω.
- Cross-family fit isn’t addressed. SMOK never says whether, for example, RPM 3 coils seat in an RPM 2 pod. It lists fit pod by pod, so the chart does too.
- A few details rest on the guide alone: we found no live SMOK product page for the SCAR-P3 or SCAR-P5, so their pods come only from SMOK’s compatibility guide and their output isn’t in the chart. The same goes for the RPM Pod versions of the IPX 80 and Thallo, which aren’t in those kits.
If you’re not sure a coil fits your pod, stick with the family SMOK lists for it in the chart. If a coil doesn’t push in firmly, don’t force it.
Pairing Nord and RPM coils with Black Note tobacco e-liquid
Resistance is a good guide to e-liquid choice. As a general rule (our guidance, not SMOK’s), the coils at 1.0Ω and up in this lineup, such as the Nord 1.4Ω regular and ceramic, RPM Quartz 1.2Ω and RPM SC 1.0Ω, run at low power and suit Black Note salt nicotine and Black Note 50/50 tobacco e-liquids. Coils at about 0.8Ω and below, which covers every RPM 2, RPM 3, RPM 4 and LP2 coil, run at higher power and pair with thicker 70VG/30PG e-liquid, including the ones SMOK labels MTL, such as the RPM 2 DC 0.6Ω MTL.
Not sure which strength or blend to start with? Take the Vape Quiz and get matched to a strength, device and tobacco e-liquid in about 60 seconds. Using a Vaporesso device as well? Our XROS pod compatibility chart covers every XROS.
