SMOK TFV Coil Compatibility Chart: Which Coils Fit Your Tank

SMOK TFV Coil Compatibility Chart: Which Coils Fit Your Tank

The number in a SMOK tank’s name doesn’t tell you which coil it takes. SMOK lists TFV16 and TFV18 coils for both the TFV16 and TFV18, but separate coils for the TFV18 Mini and TFV16 Lite. SMOK lists V8 Baby coils for the TFV8 Baby, TFV8 Big Baby and TFV12 Baby Prince, and doesn’t list them for the full-size TFV8. SMOK lists V12 Prince cores for the TFV12 Prince and Resa Prince, and the T-Air, TF-D and TF tanks each use their own series. The chart below covers 17 SMOK tanks, checked against SMOK’s own product pages and coil compatibility guide.

At a glance
TFV16 and TFV18 share SMOK lists TFV16 coils for the TFV18 tank and TFV18 coils for the TFV16 tank.
The small ones differ The TFV18 Mini takes V18 Mini coils and the TFV16 Lite takes TFV16 Lite coils. SMOK doesn't list either for the full-size tanks.
V8 Baby is not V8 SMOK lists V8 Baby coils for the TFV8 Baby, Big Baby and TFV12 Baby Prince. The full-size TFV8 takes V8 coils, and the TFV8 Baby V2 takes Baby V2 coils.
Subtanks have their own The T-Air takes TA coils, the TF-D takes D-Coils, and the TF Tank takes TF coils.

How SMOK TFV coil compatibility works

SMOK names its coils after the tank they were built for and lists which tanks each coil series is for. The tank number alone is a poor guide: SMOK lists the same coils for the TFV16 and TFV18, separate coils for the TFV18 Mini, and SMOK lists V8 Baby coils, not V12 Prince cores, for the TFV12 Baby Prince. Grouping the tanks by the coils SMOK lists for them, we count these families:

  1. TFV18 and TFV16 coils: one shared pool for the TFV18 and TFV16 tanks.
  2. V18 Mini coils: the TFV18 Mini only.
  3. TFV16 Lite coils: the TFV16 Lite only.
  4. V8 Baby coils: the TFV8 Baby, TFV8 Big Baby and TFV12 Baby Prince, and the TFV9 and TFV9 Mini in SMOK’s compatibility guide.
  5. V9 coils: the TFV9 and TFV9 Mini.
  6. V12 Prince cores: the TFV12 Prince and Resa Prince.
  7. Subtank coils: TA coils for the T-Air, D-Coils for the TF-D and TF coils for the TF Tank.

Tanks with similar names sit in their own families too: the full-size TFV8 takes V8 coils, the TFV12 Cloud Beast King takes V12 coils, and the TFV8 Baby V2 takes Baby V2 coils.

One thing to know before you read the chart: none of the SMOK pages we checked says “not compatible.” SMOK lists which tanks each coil series is for. When a coil isn’t on a tank’s list, we don’t recommend it for that tank.

The SMOK TFV coil compatibility chart

Each row shows the coils SMOK lists for that tank on an official SMOK page: the tank’s own product page, a kit page, SMOK’s coil family pages, or SMOK’s coil and pod compatibility guide (marked where it is the only source). Tank names link to the tank on Black Note where we carry it. Capacity is SMOK’s spec. The kit column lists kits SMOK says ship with the tank or pair with its coils.

TFV16 and TFV18 coils: one pool, both ways

SMOK lists TFV16 coils for the TFV18 and TFV18 coils for the TFV16. The TFV18 product page shows three TFV16 coils as “(Optional)” in its coil list. SMOK’s compatibility guide lists both coil series for the same five products: the Mag P3 Kit, TFV16 Tank, Morph 2 kit, TFV18 tank and ARCfox kit. Only the guide lists TFV18 coils for the TFV16; the TFV16’s own page doesn’t.

TFV18 and TFV16 coils, per SMOK
Coil Resistance SMOK wattage Shop
TFV18 Meshed 0.33Ω 80W to 140W, best at 100W to 110W TFV18 coils
TFV18 Dual Meshed 0.15Ω 80W to 140W, best at 100W to 110W TFV18 coils
TFV16 Mesh 0.17Ω Best at 120W TFV16 coils
TFV16 Dual Mesh 0.12Ω 80W to 160W, best at 120W TFV16 coils
TFV16 Triple Mesh 0.15Ω Best at 90W TFV16 coils
TFV16 Conical Mesh 0.2Ω Not stated by SMOK for the TFV16 version Not stocked

The tanks themselves differ: SMOK lists the TFV18 at 7.5mL (6.5mL with the dual meshed coil) and 31.6mm wide, and the TFV16 at 9mL. The standalone TFV16 tank box includes the 0.17Ω and 0.12Ω coils (the Mag P3 kit’s TFV16 comes with a 0.2Ω Conical Mesh coil preinstalled), and the TFV18 tank box includes the 0.33Ω and 0.15Ω coils.

The smaller tanks are separate. The TFV18 Mini takes V18 Mini coils (0.2Ω, 0.33Ω and dual 0.15Ω), and the TFV16 Lite takes TFV16 Lite coils (0.2Ω conical mesh, best at 60W to 85W, and 0.15Ω dual mesh, best at 60W to 90W). SMOK doesn’t list V18 Mini coils for the full-size TFV18, or TFV18 coils for the Mini. Shop V18 Mini coils for the TFV18 Mini.

For the tanks themselves, see our TFV18 review, TFV16 review and TFV18 Mini review.

V8 Baby coils: which tanks take them

“Baby Beast” is SMOK’s nickname for the TFV8 Baby, and the Big Baby is the “BIG BABY BEAST.” On SMOK’s V8 Baby coil family page, the coil cards read “Compatible with TFV8 Baby Tank, TFV8 Big Baby Tank, TFV8 Big Baby Light Edition Tank, TFV12 Baby Prince Tank.” The TFV12 Baby Prince page agrees: its coils “are compatible with baby beast coils.” SMOK’s compatibility guide adds the TFV9 and TFV9 Mini to the V8 Baby list.

V8 Baby RBA 0.35Ω 30W to 60W, best at 50W Listed for the TFV8 Baby and Big Baby only

Three tanks with “V8” or “Baby” in the name are not on this list:

  • TFV8 (Cloud Beast): the full-size TFV8 takes V8 coils such as the V8-T8, V8-X4 and V8-Q4. SMOK lists them for the TFV8 tank only.
  • TFV8 Baby V2: takes Baby V2 coils (A1, A2, A3 and others). SMOK’s guide lists them for the TFV8 Baby V2, not the original TFV8 Baby.
  • TFV8 X-Baby: takes V8 X-Baby coils, listed for the TFV8 X-Baby tank only.

Our TFV8 Baby review, TFV8 Big Baby review and TFV12 Baby Prince review cover the tanks themselves.

TFV9 and TFV9 Mini coils

The TFV9 ships with two V9 Meshed 0.15Ω coils, which SMOK rates at 40W to 90W. SMOK lists the same V9 coil for the TFV9 Mini, which the Scar-Mini kit pairs “with dual V9 Meshed coils.” Our TFV9 coils are this V9 Meshed 0.15Ω coil, in 5-packs.

  • TFV9: 6.5mL in a 28mm bulb glass tube, per SMOK. It ships in the Scar-18 kit, and the Canadian editions of the R-Kiss 2 use it too.
  • TFV9 Mini: 3mL and 23mm wide, per SMOK’s Scar-Mini page. Our TFV9 Mini listing is out of stock.
  • V8 Baby coils: SMOK’s compatibility guide lists the V8 Baby coil series for both the TFV9 and TFV9 Mini. The TFV9’s own page lists only the V9 coil, though the TFV9 box pictured there reads “COIL COMPATIBLE WITH TFV8 BB TANKS!”
  • V9 coils in Baby tanks aren’t listed. SMOK’s guide doesn’t list V9 coils for the TFV8 Baby, Big Baby or Baby Prince, and the box line doesn’t say which way the fit runs, so we don’t recommend V9 coils in those tanks.

Read our Scar-18 review for the kit that ships with the TFV9 tank.

TFV12 Prince, Resa Prince and Baby Prince

The three Prince tanks don’t share one coil series. The TFV12 Prince and Resa Prince take V12 Prince cores. The TFV12 Baby Prince, despite the name, takes V8 Baby coils (see above).

V12 Prince cores, per SMOK
Core Resistance SMOK wattage Notes
V12 Prince Q4 0.4Ω 40W to 100W, best at 60W to 80W Preinstalled in the Prince and Resa Prince

V12 Prince X2 Clapton 0.4Ω 40W to 80W, best at 60W to 70W TFV12 Prince page
  • TFV12 Prince: 8mL and 28mm wide, per SMOK. SMOK’s guide lists V12 Prince coils for the TFV12 Prince, the Stick Prince kit and the X-Priv kit.
  • Resa Prince: 7.5mL and 30mm wide. Its page lists “TFV12 PRINCE CORES”: the Q4, X6, T10 Red Light, plus the optional M4 and RBA. Our Resa Prince listing is out of stock.
  • TFV12 (Cloud Beast King): a different tank that takes V12 coils (T12, T14, X4, Q4 and others). SMOK lists those for the TFV12 tank only, not the Prince.

Our TFV12 Prince review covers the tank in more depth.

T-Air, TF-D and TF Tank: subtanks with their own coils

These three tanks each use a coil series that SMOK doesn’t list for any other tank in this chart.

  • T-Air Subtank: takes TA coils. SMOK lists the TA 0.2Ω single meshed coil (50W to 70W, best at 65W) and the TA 0.15Ω dual meshed coil (40W to 60W, best at 55W). The tank holds 5mL (2mL edition available) and ships with the Morph 3 and Mag Solo kits. Shop TA coils or the T-Air Subtank.
  • TF-D Subtank: SMOK says it is “compatible with the D-COIL Series.” The D-Coils are a meshed 0.15Ω (55W to 65W, best at 60W), a dual meshed 0.23Ω (45W to 55W, best at 50W) and a meshed 0.4Ω (25W to 35W, best at 25W). The tank holds 5.5mL (2mL edition available) and ships with the X-Priv Plus and X-Priv Solo. Shop SMOK D-Coils.
  • TF Tank: takes TF coils: the BF-Mesh 0.25Ω (30W to 80W, best at 60W to 70W) and, per SMOK’s guide, the Stick Mesh 0.15Ω. It holds 6mL. We don’t currently stock TF Tank coils.

TF and TF-D are not the same tank. They take different coil series (TF coils vs D-Coils), so check the letter after “TF” before you order. Read our Morph 3 review for the T-Air kit.

What SMOK's pages don't settle

We built this chart from SMOK’s own pages only, and a few of them disagree or leave gaps. Here’s where, and what we did about it:

  • TFV18 coils in the TFV16. SMOK’s compatibility guide lists them, and the TFV18 page lists TFV16 coils, but the TFV16’s own page shows only TFV16 coils. We followed the guide.
  • V8 Baby coils in the TFV9 and TFV9 Mini are listed in SMOK’s guide. The V8 Baby coil cards don’t name either tank, and the TFV9 page only shows a box line, “COIL COMPATIBLE WITH TFV8 BB TANKS!”, without naming a coil.
  • Two 0.2Ω conical coils. SMOK’s guide lists a TFV16 Conical Mesh 0.2Ω (for the TFV16 and TFV18) and a TFV16 Lite Conical Mesh 0.2Ω (for the TFV16 Lite) as separate coils. SMOK gives a wattage only for the Lite version.
  • Tanks missing from the guide. The guide leaves out the Resa Prince, T-Air, TF-D, G-Priv 4 and Mag-18. Their rows come from their own product or kit pages.
  • We found no standalone pages for the TFV9 Mini or TF-D on SMOK’s sites. Their rows come from the Scar-Mini and X-Priv Plus and Solo pages.
  • A small spec conflict: SMOK’s TFV12 coil page lists the V12-T6 at 0.17Ω, and the guide at 0.16Ω.

If you’re not sure a coil fits your tank, stick with one SMOK lists for it in the chart. If the coil doesn’t seat or screw in fully, don’t force it.

Pairing TFV coils with Black Note tobacco e-liquid

Every coil in this guide is a sub-ohm coil: the highest resistance on the chart is 0.6Ω, and most sit between 0.12Ω and 0.4Ω. As a general rule (our guidance, not SMOK’s), sub-ohm tank coils pair with thicker Black Note 70VG/30PG tobacco e-liquids, which suit the airy, sub-ohm draw of these tanks. That applies to every tank in the chart, from the 3mL TFV9 Mini to the 9mL TFV16.

Not sure which strength or blend to start with? Take the Vape Quiz and get matched to a strength, device and tobacco e-liquid in about 60 seconds. Using a Vaporesso device as well? Our XROS pod compatibility chart covers every XROS.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, per SMOK. The TFV18 product page lists the TFV16 Mesh, Dual Mesh and Triple Mesh coils as optional coils, and SMOK’s compatibility guide lists TFV16 coils and TFV18 coils for both tanks. Shop TFV16 coils or TFV18 coils for either the TFV18 or TFV16.

SMOK doesn’t list them for it. The TFV18 Mini takes V18 Mini coils (0.2Ω, 0.33Ω and dual 0.15Ω), and SMOK lists those for the TFV18 Mini tank and kits that ship with it, such as the Fortis and R-Kiss 2. Use V18 Mini coils in the TFV18 Mini and TFV18 coils in the TFV18.

SMOK lists V8 Baby coils for the TFV8 Baby, TFV8 Big Baby, TFV8 Big Baby Light Edition and TFV12 Baby Prince, and its compatibility guide adds the TFV9 and TFV9 Mini. They are not listed for the full-size TFV8 or the TFV8 Baby V2. We stock V8 Baby Mesh 0.15Ω coils.

The TFV9 ships with V9 Meshed 0.15Ω coils (40W to 90W), and SMOK’s compatibility guide also lists V8 Baby coils for it. The same applies to the TFV9 Mini. Shop TFV9 coils or see the Scar-18 kit, which ships with the TFV9.

TA coils. SMOK lists the TA 0.2Ω coil (50W to 70W) and the TA 0.15Ω dual coil (40W to 60W) for the T-Air, which ships with the Morph 3 and Mag Solo kits. Shop SMOK TA coils.

SMOK says the TF-D is compatible with the D-Coil series: meshed 0.15Ω, dual meshed 0.23Ω and meshed 0.4Ω. It ships with the X-Priv Plus and X-Priv Solo. Shop SMOK D-Coils; TF Tank coils are a different series.

For adults 21 and older only. Nicotine is an addictive chemical. This guide is educational and does not make medical or stopping-smoking claims. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your tank and coils. Compatibility, wattage and capacity details were checked against SMOK’s official product pages, kit pages, coil family pages and coil and pod compatibility guide on October 15, 2026. Where a tank’s own page and SMOK’s guide differ, we say so in the text. Black Note did not bench-test the coils for this guide.
