Fire-curing is what does it: the leaf is hung over smoldering hardwood fires and takes on a deep, smoky, robust character that no air-cured or sun-cured tobacco has. Naturally extracted from that leaf, Kentucky tastes robust and intense up front, smoky through the middle, with an earthy, nutty depth and a slightly sweet, almost caramel-like finish that comes from the leaf itself, not from anything added. Reviewers who smoked full-flavor cigarettes compare it to their old brand (one put it as “the cigarettes in the red box”). Reviewers who never smoked cigarettes describe a cigar-style depth.
Two things reviewers say most often. First, it is smooth for its strength. “Smooth” appears in about one in seven of the 915 reviews, as often as “sweet” does, and usually in the same sentence as “bold” or “strong.” Second, it is not sweet in the way most tobacco e-liquid is sweet.
