Your device manual or product page will list the correct battery type, such as a single 18650, dual 18650, or 21700 cell. Inside the battery door or on the mod body you will usually see markings that show the size and orientation. Always match exactly what the device calls for and never try to force in a different size. If you are unsure, check the device name against the battery listing to make sure they are compatible.
Built in batteries are sealed inside the device and charged by plugging it in. When the battery wears out, the device eventually needs replacement. Removable batteries can be taken out, charged in an external charger, and replaced with fresh cells when they reach the end of their life. Removable setups are helpful if you vape a lot, want fast swaps, or prefer to keep hardware longer by simply changing batteries instead of the entire device.
The safest method is to use a quality external charger designed for lithium ion cells. Place the batteries in the correct orientation, set the recommended charging rate if the charger allows, and allow them to charge on a stable, non flammable surface. Avoid cheap, unbranded chargers and never charge damaged or wet batteries. Once batteries are fully charged, remove them from the charger rather than leaving them connected for long periods.
Most well cared for batteries can handle many charging cycles. Over time you will notice they do not hold a charge as long as they used to or the device reports low battery more quickly. Heavy daily users may choose to replace cells roughly every 6 to 12 months, while lighter users can often go longer. Any battery that shows physical damage, torn wraps, dents, or unusual heat should be retired right away even if it still works.
Never carry loose batteries in your pocket or bag with keys, coins, or other metal objects. This can cause a short circuit. Always use a dedicated plastic battery case when transporting cells. Keep the wraps intact and clean, and avoid exposing batteries to water, direct sunlight, or extreme heat, for example leaving them on a car dashboard. Proper storage and transport are a big part of safe battery use.
The wrap is the thin plastic sleeve that covers the metal body of the battery. It prevents the outer metal shell from touching other metal surfaces and shorting out. If the wrap is torn, nicked, or peeling, the cell is not safe to use until it is rewrapped. Many shops sell replacement wraps, but if you are not comfortable rewrapping yourself, it is safer to recycle the damaged cell and replace it with a new one.
You should not mix different brands, capacities, ages, or charge levels in a multi battery device. In dual battery mods, for example, you want a matched pair that has been used and charged together, sometimes called married batteries. Mixing mismatched cells can cause uneven discharge, extra strain, and in extreme cases, failure. If one battery in a pair is no longer performing well, it is safer to replace the pair instead of just one.
Chargers in this section are designed specifically for vape style lithium ion cells. They manage charging voltage and current, and many include features like independent channels, status indicators, and automatic shutoff. A good charger helps extend battery life and adds another layer of safety. Using a charger that is meant for these cells is always better than trying to improvise with generic or unknown power sources.
For longer term storage, keep batteries in a plastic case in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not store them fully drained or fully charged for many months. A moderate charge level is usually ideal for storage. Keep them away from children and pets, and avoid leaving batteries in devices that you will not use for a long time, especially if they will be stored in hot or humid environments.
