We can no longer carry glass bottles per Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines for e-liquid containers “restricted flow requirement” states that an opened bottle, when inverted and squeezed continuously for five seconds by a five-year-old child, must dispense no more than two milliliters of e-liquid. No glass bottle could pass such a test since the contents would flow freely when the opened bottle is tipped upside down. The rule can be found in section 1700.15 of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

Our unadulterated, straight tobacco flavor comes from different tobacco varieties. This means all our tobacco flavors have only one CAS number except for Menthol. On May 19, 2019, we performed comprehensive testing and HPHCs analysis to measure the levels of HPHCs in our Virginia Tobacco e-liquid formulations containing 0 and 18 mg/mL nicotine. Compared to smoke-chemistry research of cigarettes and recently authorized products such as the IQOS, the Virginia Tobacco e-liquid product demonstrates substantially lower potential exposures to all measured HPHCs. 

Most HPHCs and other constituents were below the quantitation limit when used as intended. Furthermore, based on publicly available information, all detected HPHCs and constituents were lower than other ENDS products on the market. 

Compared to smoke-chemistry analysis of cigarettes and recently authorized products such as the IQOS, the Black Note Tobacco e-liquid product demonstrates substantially lower potential exposures to all but two of the measured HPHCs (Menthol and nicotine). In addition, the vast majority of the other HPHCs and other constituents, when used as intended, were BELOW the quantitation limit, and those which were detected were numerous HPHCs and other constituents when used as intended, on par with [or lower than] other ENDS products on the market, based on publicly available information.

Nicotine in e-liquid is measured as milligrams per milliliter (mg/ml), with bottles commonly coming in levels of 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, 9mg, 12mg, 18mg, 20mg, 30mg, and 50mg. This tells you the amount of liquid nicotine there is in a bottle in relation to the total amount of e-liquid in the bottle. 

This means that a bigger bottle of e-liquid will contain more nicotine overall than a smaller bottle with the same nicotine strength. So if you get a 15 ml bottle and a 30 ml bottle of the same strength, the 30 ml bottle will contain twice as much nicotine as the 15 ml bottle.

The nicotine is mixed throughout the bottle, so whenever you fill-up the same tank or clearomizer with an e-liquid of a specific strength, you get the same amount of nicotine. In other words, in a bottle of 12mg/ml e-liquid, every ml of e-liquid contains 12 milligrams of nicotine, mixed evenly throughout, so you get a consistent hit of nicotine with every puff.

The basic rules of e-liquid storage are that it should be kept away from light, in a cool location, and somewhere that children or pets won’t get access to it. That is why we created cardboard tubes to give our liquid more protection.

If it’s exposed to light and air, the nicotine will oxidize and your e-liquid will get darker. This doesn’t change its core properties, but it can be easily avoided with proper storage. If you store your e-liquid in the worst way possible (near a window with the cap off) you could lose a notable amount of nicotine, but in most cases the difference is negligible.

The bigger concern for spoilage is the flavors, which will degrade more quickly in light and heat. None of this is going to do you any harm, but the flavor will be ruined.

Ideally, e-liquid should be stored in an air-tight container, but as soon as you’ve had a bit of your e-liquid this is hard to achieve. Glass is better than plastic for long-term storage for this reason, though, because plastic is slightly permeable by air.

Propylene glycol (PG) is one of the main ingredients in e-liquid, and although most vapers can inhale it without a problem, it can cause an allergic reaction for a small percentage. You can rectify the issue by switching to vegetable glycerin (VG) based e-liquid.

For those sensitive to PG, the most common consequence is excessive irritation and a sore, dry throat when inhaling PG-based liquids, but in some cases, more typical allergic reactions can occur. These include sinus problems, headaches and nausea, and in some cases numbness of the face and itchy hives.

Between 1.5 and 3.5 percent of people have a contact allergy to PG (although there is some uncertainty about the precise number). In these cases, small bumps may be present around your mouth, accompanied by a burning or stinging sensation in the affected areas.

Another thing to consider, however, is that there may be some crossover between potential signs of allergies and symptoms from stopping smoking (such as “quit zits”), so the best way to be sure is to stop vaping or use a different e-liquid (see below) for a while to see if the symptoms clear up. If they do, then it’s likely that PG is causing your symptoms.

Finally, it’s worth noting that even vapers who’ve used PG-based liquids before without issues can develop a sensitivity later down the line – just because you’ve been OK before doesn’t mean you won’t develop an allergy or sensitivity.

The simplest solution for vapers allergic to PG is to switch to vegetable glycerin (VG) based e-liquids, or ones with much lower amounts of PG. Although most mixers (including Black Note) use both PG and VG in their e-liquid, you can find VG-only liquids, and some mixers allow you to choose your ratio of the two. If you don’t switch to VG-only liquids, try to keep the PG content as low as possible – 70 percent VG to 30 percent PG may be enough to minimize your symptoms, but the less PG the better.

It’s possible to be allergic to VG too, but this is much less common and is unlikely to be an issue.

Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, known as PG and VG, are the two primary ingredients in e-liquid and the resulting vapor.

Propylene Glycol (PG)

PG has the chemical name 1,2-propanediol, and is a generally recognized as safe chemical that is used in a wide range of consumer products, including pharmaceuticals, sunscreen, lotions, shampoos, food flavorings, pet foods, cosmetic creams, theatrical smoke machines and many more products. PG is also used in antifreeze, but it’s used to make the antifreeze drastically less toxic for humans and pets. In e-liquid, food grade PG is used to carry the flavor, and the fact that it’s slightly irritating to the throat when inhaled means that it contributes to the “throat hit” of the vapor.

Vegetable Glycerin (VG)

VG has the chemical name 1,2,3-propanetriol, and like PG, is a generally recognized as safe chemical used in a multitude of consumer products, including pharmaceuticals, foods, cosmetics and in tobacco. As with PG, it may be irritating when inhaled. However, in e-liquid VG produces a much smoother throat-hit, is thicker than PG and imparts more sweetness to the taste.

Safety of PG and VG for Inhalation

There is limited evidence on the safety of PG and VG for inhalation. Still, studies on those exposed to theatrical fog machines (which also use other chemicals and lower-grade PG) generally show very little evidence of harm, with irritation being the only notable effect. Animal studies on PG and VG have also shown no evidence of harm other than mild irritation. However, more research is needed to make any definitive statements about the risks for vapers.

PG/VG Ratios in E-Liquid

The most important thing about PG and VG for vapers is their relative quantities used in a given e-liquid. Generally speaking, higher PG levels improve the flavor (because it doesn’t drown it out as much as VG), produce a stronger throat hit and make the liquid thinner (and therefore more efficient at wicking). On the other hand, VG-based liquids produce thicker vapor, but are more viscous, so they won’t wick as effectively.

At Black Note, we use a 50/50 mix of PG and VG, which provides a nice balance between throat hit, flavor, and vapor production.

Black Note’s Original line and Nic Salts collection come in a 50vg/50pg ratio. Both collections are usually the first option for first-time vapors, but plenty of experts use them, too, since the ratio of PG to VG is balanced. Apart from the flavor, the ratio of PG to VG is one of the characteristics that affect your vaping experience. The 50/50 ratio means that your e-liquid is half Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and half Propylene Glycol (PG). PG and VG are odorless liquids usually combined with nicotine and the desired flavor.

Even though they are in the chemical alcohol category, the liquids are not intoxicating. 50vg/50pg E-Juice allows you to enjoy the flavors of both liquids in equal measures.

Many people like this type of e-juice because it is the perfect compromise between PG and VG. It gives you a chance to enjoy the benefits of both liquids. In addition, the VG gives off a sweet flavor.

Low Viscosity

On the other hand, VG thickens your liquid, and PG helps define the flavor. Since both liquids are essential, 50/50 e-liquid gives you a balance. Another advantage is that the 50vg/50pg blends are very thin. The low viscosity makes it appropriate for many vaping devices. 50/50 e-liquids work on just about any vaping device in the market.

Longer Coil Life

A 50/50 juice is an excellent choice if you want to significantly improve the life of your coils without affecting the quality of your vaping experience. Most manufacturers recommend a 50vg/50pg e-Juice because a higher PG ratio may gunk your coils.

Many foods (fruits and vegetables) contain natural chemicals that are toxic to humans. However, they are usually present in tiny amounts, far below the harmful dose. For example, Salicaceae is a family of plants that belong to the tomato, potato, tobacco, eggplant, chili peppers, bell peppers, and many others. All plants have protective devices, either mechanical like thorns or barks, and various types of vegetable poisons, mainly in the form of alkaloids. This is to protect themselves from all phytophagous (insects and animals that feed on plants). Many of the above also contain nicotine and similar alkaloids.

Our cold NATURAL & Proprietary extraction system allows us to extract mainly flavored substances out of the tobacco, only very, very indefinitely small amounts of Nicotine/alkaloids are collected by our process, so small is the amount that one does not have to mention them by LAW in food analysis. Therefore, the constituents of our extraction are perfectly ok and in no way harmful.

Typically, those who vape with a sub-ohm device prefer juice with higher vegetable glycerin (VG) to propylene glycol (PG) ratio because it produces more vapor and has less of a throat hit, enabling a longer DTL inhale.

Those using a sub-ohm device will prefer a lower strength e-liquid, typically no higher than 6mg/ml as more nicotine is delivered through the larger intake of vapor, and higher strengths will be too harsh with a sub-ohm coil.

So don't think there's something wrong with your nose if you don't smell anything with Black Note. Just know there's something right with your e-liquid.

Black Note natural Tobacco extracts' inherent nature should not contain gluten, so the answer is 99.9 % a No.

However, to be 100% certain, we will have to request a gluten content analysis from the lab to ensure the product is 100% gluten-free with confidence. Until then, we can’t legally make the 100% gluten-free claim because there may be 0.01% traces of gluten coming from somewhere we don’t know and can’t tell.

E-juice shelf life is generally cited as having a shelf life of one to one and a half years, but there is a fair amount of uncertainty on this topic. If you store your e-liquid properly, it can have a shelf life of up to two years.

The estimate for the e-juice expiration date is primarily based on the established shelf lives of PG and VG, with nicotine being capable of being stored indefinitely in proper conditions. The uncertainty comes primarily from the flavorings, which can vary from liquid to liquid. For Black Note, all of our flavors are naturally-extracted from tobacco (and peppermint, for Solo), and we don’t add any flavorings or colorings, but overall the same considerations apply to any e-liquid.

While ejuice can freeze, it has a lower freezing point than water, so frozen puddles at your feet don't necessarily mean frozen e-liquid. Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius, while the two main components of e-liquid, Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin, freeze at -12 degrees and -17 degrees, respectively.

Due to the PG content in most eJuices, eJuice will not freeze. It will, however, get thicker, and the ingredients may separate until the eJuice is warmed-up. eJuices containing 100%VG may freeze if left outside for a while, but this does not harm the eJuice. Many people have frozen their eJuice to give it a longer shelf life without any adverse effects (although we do not recommend or endorse this practice as we believe that fresh is best for eJuice). Cold is better for eJuice than heat, so if your eJuice or Vape Juice has been sitting outside in freezing weather, all you need to do is let it warm up for approximately 24 hours before you vape it so that it will flow adequately into your wick.

The original nic salt packaging bottle is a 60ml size due to legal constraints but 30ml in volume intentionally. The new 30ml salt nicotine package doesn't show the word "salt" in the front of it intentionally due to FDA rules, but rest assured, it is 100% salt nicotine. On a side note, any nicotine amount above 24mg is automatically a salt nicotine product. 

Here is how To Open E-Liquid Bottle properly: 

• Step 1: Make sure your hands and the bottle are dry.
• Step 2: Check the edge of the bottle cap for any shrink wrap or plastic bags. If there are any, break them off.
• Step 3: Hold the bottle in one hand and firmly press down on the lid with the other hand.
• Step 4: While still pushing down, twist the lid counter-clockwise.
• Step 5: Continue unscrewing until the cap is free.

More Tips and Life Hacks

1. Always apply downward pressure. This connects the outer and inner caps, allowing you to unscrew them simultaneously. You may need to use more or less pressure depending on the nature and size of the cap. Try increasing or reducing pressure if a bottle refuses to open.
2. Use a towel for better friction in gripping and unscrewing.
3. Squeezing the rigged sides of the lid helps.
4. For stubborn lids, especially those glued in place by leaked e-liquid, try immersing them in hot water for a few minutes. This will expand the cap and melt the liquids.
5. A plier can come in handy for small-sized bottles.
6. Open a hole in your e-juice bottle and pour the vape juice into your e-cigarette as a last resort.

No. Black Note is not compatible with JUUL products or any other prefilled/disposable pod on the market.

A 70VG / 30 PG vape juice is a common choice for sub-ohm or temperature control vaping. These types of vape juice work best when the atomizer resistance is between 0.5 ohms and 0.9 ohms. 70/30 will work with lower resistance atomizers, but we feel ideal for the 0.5 to 0.9 area. 

The nicotine content is so much lower in VG e-liquids because the amount of vapor produced is substantial. Because the vaper will be inhaling larger quantities of vapor, less nicotine is required to achieve satisfaction. The two most common nicotine levels for VG vape juice are either 3 mg or 6 mg.

Generally, we ship packages by air. Pods leak typically because of a change in air pressure. This pressure change pushes e-liquid out of the pod. Even though the airplane's cabin is pressurized, the air pressure still differs from the air pressure on the ground.
