My grandfather used to smoke Cavendish in his pipe and now I know why

“I have ordered Cavendish many times now and it is consistently my go-to everyday salt. Extremely smooth and mild with a touch of sweet that lingers. My grandfather used to smoke Cavendish in his pipe and now I know why. Best tobacco vape out there, hands down!”

Not too sweet. Just perfect.

“CAVENDISH BLEND is by far my favorite of Black Note. Its not too sweet. Its just perfect. Perfect tobacco flavor for those who are looking for an authentic tobacco rich mildly sweet flavor. Highly highly recommend this one, a must.”

It’s so good it should be my private secret

“This tobacco is simply the best. It’s so good it should be my private secret. I’ve had it all, artificial and NET, and this is the one. Sweet, but not overwhelming so; robust in just the right way, a bit in the front and some more at the back. Perfect for MTL and RDL.”

Your Cavendish Tobacco guide

Everything to know before you choose

Cavendish is a way of curing tobacco, not a plant.

Dark, ripe Virginia leaf is pressed, oak-barrel cured, and steamed, and the heat and time bring the leaf’s own sugars forward and mellow everything else. The result is the sweetest, most aromatic tobacco in our line, with the rounded depth pipe smokers know. Nothing is added to get there: no sugar, no vanilla, no casing. The sweetness is the leaf and the barrel.

What it tastes like in the mouth: mellow and smooth on the draw, a natural sweetness that reviewers describe as molasses, root beer, or roasted rather than candy, and a warm tobacco finish with a little smokiness at the back. Sweet is the word in 27% of 1,053 reviews, and only 2% say too sweet. “Not sugar-sweet; it’s the sweetness of real tobacco,” one longtime customer wrote, and that is the line to remember.

Where it sits in the line: Cavendish and Burley are the two ends of our sweetness scale. Burley is air-cured, dry, and nutty; Cavendish is the aromatic, naturally sweet opposite. Virginia is the same leaf family without the barrel, so it is brighter and lighter, mildly sweet rather than fully so. If you smoked a pipe, or if you want the sweetest real tobacco we make, this is the one. If you want dry and earthy, Burley. If you want smoke, Latakia is the other pipe blend. The Vape Quiz sorts them in under two minutes.

What Vaping360 said in its Black Note review: “Cavendish tobacco has a subtly sweet touch to it, but it’s a Cavendish type of sweetness from the curing process, not anything like fruit sweetness.”

All three options use the same Cavendish tobacco extract. Bottle size, base ratio, and available strengths change.

Compatibility depends on the e-liquid type and the device or coil you use.

Real oak-barrel cured Virginia tobacco extract, vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, purified water, and nicotine when selected.

Most tobacco e-liquid is mixed from synthetic flavoring in an afternoon.

The name goes back to Sir Thomas Cavendish, the English sea captain whose crews, the story goes, sweetened and pressed their Virginia leaf on the voyage home in the 1580s and found it came out darker, mellower, and sweeter.

Questions buyers ask about Cavendish Tobacco

Cavendish is a curing method: dark, ripe Virginia leaf is pressed, oak-barrel cured, and steamed, which brings out the leaf’s natural sweetness and mellows it. Ours tastes aromatic and naturally sweet, with a smooth, pipe-tobacco depth and a little smokiness at the finish.

Does it have added sugar? It reads as naturally sweet and aromatic, but nothing is added. The sweetness comes from the ripe Virginia leaf and the oak-barrel curing. Twenty-seven percent of our reviewers mention the sweetness; two percent call it too sweet.

They are the two ends of our sweetness scale. Cavendish is aromatic and naturally sweet with pipe-tobacco depth. Burley is air-cured, dry, nutty, and not sweet. If you want mellow and sweet, Cavendish. If you want dry and earthy, Burley.

Same leaf family, different curing. Virginia is flue-cured and bright: mellow, mildly sweet, the everyday tobacco. Cavendish is dark, ripe Virginia that has been oak-barrel cured and steamed, so it is deeper, sweeter, and more aromatic. Reviewers who like Virginia often keep both.

Start at 3 mg in 50VG/50PG. A pipe smoker who never inhaled needs less nicotine than a cigarette smoker, and higher is not better. The Vape Quiz takes under two minutes if you want a second opinion.

50VG/50PG is smooth in MTL pods and low-wattage devices. 70VG/30PG has more VG for bigger vapor in sub-ohm setups. Salt nicotine comes in higher strengths and gives a smoother pull in pod devices. VG and PG are the two liquids in every e-liquid; more VG means thicker vapor, more PG carries flavor and feels a little sharper.

Freebase (50VG/50PG and 70VG/30PG) comes in 0, 3, 6, 12, and 18 mg in a 60mL bottle. Salt nicotine comes in 20, 30, and 50 mg in a 30mL bottle. The selector shows what is in stock today.

It is the sweetest leaf we work with, and natural leaf sugars build up on a coil, so you will change coils sooner than with Special Blend. There are no added sweeteners in it; what builds up is the tobacco’s own sugar. Lower wattage helps.

    smooth, mellow, and slightly sweet

Cavendish is now my go to. Feels and tastes like tobacco so I do not miss "the real thing". This blend is very smooth and has a mellow flavor with a slightly sweet hint. This is my all day smoke favorite.

Favorite of the Black Note flavors

This flavor has the most balance and has been helpful for me quitting smoking. Not too powerful, but not too light.

    Totally lavish experience!

Long time vaper, only use a vanilla tobacco ejuice. I add a little bit of the rich, smoky Cavandish, turns my all-day vape into a luxury. Slightly sweet, boozy richness on the front end, with that Cavendish full-bodied roasted flavor for the finish. And they also sent me a full bottle of "Special Blend" juice as a free sample! Awesome all the way around! Chose the 70/30 blend for my sub-ohm mod, about 46 watts is perfect. Thank you!
