Freemax Coil Compatibility Chart: Which Coils Fit Your Tank

Freemax coils are built around platforms, and each platform has its own coil. The M Pro, M Pro 2 and M Pro 3 tanks take M1-D, 904L M and M Pro Mesh coils. The Fireluke M, 2, 3 and 4 take X, X1-D, TX and 904L X coils. Marvos pods take MS and MS-D coils, Maxus DTL pods take MX coils, and the Galex Pod takes GX coils. The Gemm disposable tank has a built-in coil, so you replace the whole tank. The chart below matches more than 30 Freemax tanks, pods and kits to their coils, checked against Freemax’s own pages.

At a glance
M Pro tanks take M coils Freemax lists M1-D, 904L M1 to M4, M Pro Mesh and M Pro RBA coils for the M Pro, M Pro 2 and M Pro 3.
Fireluke tanks take X coils X, X1-D, TX and 904L X coils are listed for the Fireluke M, Fireluke 2, Fireluke 3 and Fireluke 4.
Pod mods use plug-in coils Marvos pods take MS and MS-D coils, Maxus DTL pods take MX coils and the Galex Pod takes GX coils.
Gemm has no spare coil The Gemm disposable tank uses built-in G1 to G4 coils that Freemax says are non-detachable.

How Freemax coil compatibility works

Freemax groups its tanks and pods into platforms, and its FAQ lists each coil family for one platform only. The device name doesn’t always tell you the platform. A Maxus kit can come with an M Pro tank, a Fireluke tank or a Maxus DTL pod, depending on the model. Freemax’s FAQ puts the main coil families in one table, and this is how it splits them:

  1. M platform: M1-D, 904L M1 to M4, M Pro Mesh and M Pro RBA coils for the M Pro, M Pro 2 and M Pro 3 tanks.
  2. Fireluke X coils: X (including X1-D), TX and 904L X coils for the Fireluke M, Fireluke 2, Fireluke 3 and Fireluke 4.
  3. MS platform: MS and MS-D coils for the Marvos DTL Pod, DTL Pod Tank, CRC Pod and CRC Pod Tank.
  4. MX platform: MX coils for the Maxus DTL Pod and Maxus DTL Pod Tank (and their metal versions).
  5. Galex: GX and GX-P coils for the Galex Pod. The Galex V2 Pod has its coil built in.
  6. Single-tank coils: FL coils for the Fireluke Solo, and Fireluke 22 coils for the Fireluke 22.

One thing to know before you read the chart: none of the Freemax pages we checked says “not compatible.” Freemax lists which tanks or pods each coil is for. When a coil isn’t on a device’s list, we don’t recommend it for that device.

The Freemax coil compatibility chart

Each row shows the coils or pods Freemax lists for that device on an official Freemax page: the tank or pod page, the coil page, the coil box, or the coil table in Freemax’s FAQ. Kits are listed by the tank or pod they ship with. Device names link to the product on Black Note where we carry it.

Where to buy each family: 904L M coils (M Pro tanks), our Fireluke Mesh Pro coils (Kanthal multi-mesh; read the Mesh Pro section before you order), 904L X coils and X1-D coils (Fireluke tanks), MS-D coils and MS coils (Marvos), MX coils and Maxus DTL pods, GX coils and Galex pods, and the Gemm disposable tank.

Not in the chart: the Maxluke, Mesh Pro and Fireluke Mesh names. Freemax’s 904L X2 0.5Ω box reads “Compatible for Maxluke, Fireluke 3, Fireluke 2, and Fireluke M Tank,” and a Freemax news post calls the M Pro tank “M Pro(Mesh Pro),” but neither name has its own Freemax product page, and we found no Freemax page for a Fireluke Mesh tank.

904L M, M1-D and M Pro Mesh coils: the M Pro tanks

The M Pro, M Pro 2 and M Pro 3 share one coil platform. Freemax’s FAQ lists M1-D, 904L M1 to M4, M Pro Mesh and M Pro RBA coils for all three tanks, and the M Pro 2 page adds: “All the SS904L M Mesh Coils are compatible with M Pro tank and vice versa.” The M Pro 3 tank ships with an M1-D 0.15Ω coil installed and a spare 904L M2 0.2Ω.

M platform coils and Freemax’s power ranges

M1-D (Double-D mesh) 0.15Ω 50W to 80W, best 70W Included with the M Pro 3
904L M1 0.15Ω 40W to 70W, best 65W 904L M coils
904L M2 0.2Ω 60W to 90W, best 80W 904L M coils
904L M3 0.15Ω 80W to 110W, best 100W 904L M coils
904L M4 0.15Ω 70W to 110W, best 95W 904L M coils
M Pro Mesh, Kanthal single, double, triple, quad 0.15Ω, 0.2Ω, 0.15Ω, 0.15Ω 40W to 70W; 60W to 90W; 80W to 110W; 80W to 120W See the Mesh Pro section
M Pro Mesh, Kanthal quintuple 0.15Ω 80W to 100W, recommended 90W Not stocked
M Pro Mesh, SS316L single 0.12Ω Temperature control, 400°F to 550°F Not stocked

How to read this group:

  • M3 and M4 are both 0.15Ω, but Freemax rates them differently: 80W to 110W for the M3 and 70W to 110W for the M4. Check the coil name, not just the resistance, before you set your wattage.
  • “Maxus Pro” is on the M1-D box. It reads “Compatible with Maxus Pro and M Pro Series Tanks.” Freemax doesn’t have a product page for a tank called Maxus Pro, so the chart sticks to the M Pro, M Pro 2 and M Pro 3.
  • Freemax says 904L M coils are not TC coils. Its FAQ says that if you can’t vape with them, try another mode.

Our M Pro 3 tank review covers the tank itself: 28mm wide, 5mL, 510 thread and an 810 drip tip.

904L X and X1-D coils: the Fireluke tanks

Freemax’s FAQ lists three coil lines for the Fireluke 4, Fireluke 3, Fireluke 2 and Fireluke M: X (including X1-D), TX and 904L X. The Fireluke 3 coil chart adds: “All the 904L X Mesh Coils are compatible with Fireluke 2 and Fireluke M Tanks, and vice versa.”

Fireluke coils we carry and Freemax’s power ranges
Coil Resistance Output power (Freemax) Shop
X1-D (Double-D mesh) 0.15Ω 40W to 80W, best 80W X1-D coils
904L X1 0.15Ω 40W to 80W, best 70W 904L X coils
904L X2 0.2Ω 40W to 80W, best 70W 904L X coils
904L X2 0.5Ω 20W to 50W, best 45W 904L X coils
904L X3 0.15Ω 50W to 90W, best 80W 904L X coils
904L X4 0.15Ω 40W to 80W, best 70W Not stocked

How to read this group:

  • The Fireluke 4 ships with both coil types. Freemax’s box list is an X1-D 0.15Ω pre-installed plus a 904L X2 0.2Ω, and the tank page lists “Coil: X/TX/904L X Mesh Coils.”
  • Several kits use Fireluke tanks. The Maxus 100W kit ships with the Fireluke 3, the Twister 80W with the Fireluke 2 and the Twister 2 80W with the Fireluke 4, so those kits take the same coils.
  • The Fireluke Solo and Fireluke 22 are different. Freemax lists FL coils for the Fireluke Solo and its own DTL and MTL coils for the Fireluke 22. Neither is listed for X or 904L X coils.

Mesh Pro coils: what Freemax's pages say

“Mesh Pro” is one of the coil names shoppers search most, and it’s one of the least clear on Freemax’s own site. Freemax’s FAQ lists M Pro Mesh coils (Kanthal single, double, triple, quad and quintuple mesh, plus an SS316L single) for the M Pro, M Pro 2 and M Pro 3. Its M Pro Mesh Coil Series page answers “which atomizers do they work with” with three tanks: the M Pro, the Fireluke Pro and the Fireluke Tank.

Freemax uses “Mesh Pro” and “M Pro” interchangeably. A Freemax news post calls the M Pro tank “M Pro(Mesh Pro),” and its MX Platform page says MX coils copy the “Mesh Pro Series” coils, while the MX Mesh Coil page says the same thing about the “M Pro Series.” Freemax has no separate product page for a Mesh Pro tank or a Fireluke Mesh tank.

We sell our Fireluke Mesh Pro coils as Kanthal multi-mesh coils in single 0.15Ω, double 0.2Ω, triple 0.15Ω and quad 0.15Ω. Those resistances match options in Freemax’s M Pro Mesh series, but Freemax’s pages don’t use the name “Fireluke Mesh Pro,” so we can’t confirm from Freemax that they are the same product. Before you order, compare the label on the coil you’re replacing with the product page. If it’s labeled 904L M or M1-D, buy 904L M coils instead.

One related point: Freemax calls the MX coil “the pluggable version of the M Pro Mesh Coils.” MX coils plug into Maxus DTL pods, while M Pro coils thread into a tank, and Freemax doesn’t list either for the other.

MS, MS-D and MX coils: Marvos and Maxus pod mods

Freemax’s pod mods use plug-in coils, and each pod family has its own. Freemax’s FAQ lists the MS series (MS-D and MS) for the Marvos DTL Pod, DTL Pod Tank, CRC Pod and CRC Pod Tank, and the MX series for the Maxus DTL Pod and DTL Pod Tank. Freemax calls the MS platform “One-Marvos-Fits-All” and says the Marvos DTL Pod “can be applied to all Marvos products.”

Marvos and Maxus pod coils we carry
Coil Resistance Output power (Freemax) Shop
MS-D (Double-D mesh) 0.15Ω 60W to 80W, best 75W MS-D coils
MS-D (Double-D mesh) 0.25Ω 30W to 50W, best 45W MS-D coils
MS 0.35Ω 30W to 40W, best 35W MS coils
MS 0.5Ω 20W to 30W, best 30W MS coils
MX2 0.2Ω 60W to 90W, best 80W MX coils
MX3 0.15Ω 80W to 110W, best 100W MX coils

How to read this group:

  • Marvos X and X Pro ship with MS-D. The Marvos X 100W comes with a Marvos CRC Pod and the X Pro with a CRC Pod Tank, each with an MS-D 0.15Ω installed and a spare MS-D 0.25Ω. The Marvos 60W, 80W and T 80W use the Marvos DTL Pod.
  • MS also comes in 0.15Ω and 0.25Ω. Freemax rates the MS 0.15Ω at 60W to 80W and the MS 0.25Ω at 40W to 60W.
  • Maxus DTL pods are 5mL side-fill pods. Our Maxus DTL pods take MX coils. Freemax ships the Maxus Max 168W with an MX2 0.2Ω installed and a spare MX1 0.15Ω, and the Maxus DTL Pod Tank (a pod on a 510 base) with an MX1-D 0.15Ω and an MX2 0.2Ω.
  • Not every Maxus is a pod mod. The Maxus 2 200W and Maxus 3 200W ship with the M Pro 3 tank, so they take M coils, not MX.

Galex pods, GX coils and the Gemm disposable tank

Galex: the Galex Pod is a 2mL refillable pod that takes plug-in GX coils. Freemax’s FAQ lists GX and GX-P coils in 0.8Ω and 1.0Ω for the Galex Pod, and the GX box reads “Compatible with Freemax Galex Pod.” Freemax rates both the GX and GX-P 0.8Ω at 13W to 18W (best 15W) and both 1.0Ω coils at 12W to 16W (best 13W). Shop Galex pods and GX coils.

  • The Galex Nano and the Galex kit ship with the Galex Pod and two GX coils, 0.8Ω and 1.0Ω. The Galex Pro ships with GX-P coils.
  • The Galex V2 Pod is different: it’s a 3mL pod with a built-in GX-P coil, so there’s no coil to change. Freemax lists it for the Galex, Galex Pro, Galex Nano, Galex V2, Galex Nano 2 and Galex Nano S batteries, and says the 0.6Ω V2 pod fits only the Galex Nano S and Galex Nano 2.

Gemm disposable tank: there are no Gemm replacement coils. Freemax’s Gemm page says the tanks use “built-in non-detachable Mesh Coils,” and that one tank “can serve 30 to 40 tanks before the flavors get muted.” When it’s done, you replace the tank. Each tank has one of six built-in coils:

Gemm disposable tank built-in coils
Built-in coil Resistance Freemax rating
G1 single mesh 0.15Ω 40W to 80W, best 70W
G1 SS316L single 0.12Ω 400°F to 550°F, best 500°F
G2 double mesh 0.2Ω 40W to 80W, best 70W
G2 double mesh 0.5Ω 20W to 30W, best 25W
G3 triple mesh 0.15Ω 50W to 90W, best 80W
G4 quad mesh 0.15Ω 40W to 80W, best 70W

The Gemm tank is 25mm wide with a 510 thread and holds 5mL or 4mL (2mL in the TPD edition). Freemax sells it on its own and in the Gemm 80W starter kit. The Gemm 25W pod kit is a separate pod system: it uses the Gemm Pod with 0.5Ω and 1.0Ω coils, not the Gemm tank. Shop the Gemm disposable tank in 2-packs.

What Freemax's pages don't settle

We built this chart from Freemax’s own pages only, and a few of them disagree or leave gaps. Here’s where, and what we did about it:

  • The 904L X4 resistance. One 904L X spec image lists the X4 at 0.5Ω. The 904L X4 box and the Fireluke 3 coil chart both say 0.15Ω. We used 0.15Ω.
  • Older tank names with no page. Freemax names the Fireluke Pro and “Fireluke Tank” (for M Pro Mesh coils), the Maxus Pro (on the M1-D box) and the Maxluke (on the 904L X2 0.5Ω box), but none of them has a current product page. A Freemax news post uses “Mesh Pro” as another name for the M Pro, and we found no Freemax page for a Fireluke Mesh tank.
  • Older pages list fewer tanks. The original 904L M page lists the M Pro and M Pro 2, and the 904L X page lists the Fireluke M, 2 and 3. Freemax’s FAQ adds the M Pro 3 and Fireluke 4, and we followed the FAQ.
  • MS-D in the Marvos DTL Pod. The FAQ lists the whole MS series, including MS-D, for the DTL and CRC pods. The DTL pod pages themselves only say “MS Mesh Coil Compatible,” and MS-D appears on the CRC pod pages.
  • Gemm Pod coils. The Gemm 25W kit page calls its coils NS mesh coils, but the FAQ lists NS coils (1.0Ω and 1.5Ω) only for the Maxpod pod.

If you’re not sure a coil fits, stick with one Freemax lists for your tank or pod in the chart. If a coil doesn’t thread or seat easily, don’t force it.

Pairing Freemax coils with Black Note tobacco e-liquid

Resistance tells you how a coil draws. As a general rule (our guidance, not Freemax’s), the 1.0Ω GX and GX-P coils in the Galex Pod run at low power with a tighter, mouth-to-lung draw that suits Black Note salt nicotine and Black Note 50/50 tobacco e-liquids. The 0.8Ω Galex coils and every sub-ohm coil in this guide, from the M, X, MS and MX coils to the Gemm tank, run at higher power with a looser draw and pair with thicker 70VG/30PG e-liquid.

Not sure which strength or blend to start with? Take the Vape Quiz and get matched to a strength, device and tobacco e-liquid in about 60 seconds. Using a Vaporesso device as well? Our XROS pod compatibility chart covers every XROS.

Frequently asked questions

No. Freemax says Gemm tanks use built-in, non-detachable mesh coils, so you replace the whole tank when the flavor fades. Freemax says a Gemm tank “can serve 30 to 40 tanks before the flavors get muted.” Each tank has one of six built-in coils (G1 to G4) and a 510 thread. Shop the Freemax Gemm disposable tank in 2-packs.

Freemax lists its M Pro Mesh coils, the Kanthal single, double, triple, quad and quintuple mesh coils, for the M Pro, M Pro 2 and M Pro 3, and its coil series page also shows the Fireluke Pro and Fireluke Tank. Freemax doesn’t list M Pro Mesh coils for the Fireluke 2, 3 or 4, which take X and 904L X coils. Our Fireluke Mesh Pro coils are Kanthal multi-mesh coils, but Freemax’s pages don’t use that name, so check your old coil’s label against the product page before you order.

Freemax lists M1-D, 904L M1 to M4, M Pro Mesh and M Pro RBA coils for the M Pro 3, M Pro 2 and M Pro. Freemax doesn’t sell a coil line called Maxus Pro: the only “Maxus Pro” we found is on the M1-D box, which reads “Compatible with Maxus Pro and M Pro Series Tanks.” Our 904L M coils come in M1 to M4, and our M Pro 3 review covers the tank.

Freemax lists X (including X1-D), TX and 904L X coils for the Fireluke M, Fireluke 2, Fireluke 3 and Fireluke 4. We carry 904L X coils and X1-D coils. The Fireluke Solo takes FL coils and the Fireluke 22 takes its own coils.

Freemax lists its MS series, MS-D and MS, for the Marvos DTL Pod, DTL Pod Tank, CRC Pod and CRC Pod Tank. The Marvos X 100W and X Pro ship with MS-D coils, and the Marvos 60W, 80W and T 80W use the DTL Pod. Shop MS-D coils or MS coils.

It depends on the Maxus. The Maxus 2 200W and Maxus 3 200W ship with the M Pro 3 tank and take 904L M coils. The Maxus 100W ships with the Fireluke 3 and takes 904L X coils. The Maxus Max and Max Pro use Maxus DTL pods with MX coils.
