Vaporesso XROS 5 Nano Review: The XROS Draw in a Compact Shape

Vaporesso XROS 5 Nano Review: The XROS Draw in a Compact Shape

The XROS 5 Nano takes the XROS draw and pods and puts them in a short, wide body with a round touchscreen. This review covers everything: battery life and charging, every screen function and power mode, every pod that fits, which e-liquid to use, and the good, the bad and the ugly.

At a glance
Editorial verdict The most feature-rich XROS for its size: 1600mAh, a 1.09-inch touchscreen and every XROS pod.
Best for Mouth to lung and restricted lung vapers on salts or 50/50 who like tracking their puffs.
Standout A responsive touchscreen with 29 themes, puff tracking and three power modes.
Main tradeoff Draw activated only, and the side airflow slider is easy to cover with your hand.

Our verdict on the Vaporesso XROS 5 Nano

The XROS 5 Nano makes sense when you like the XROS draw but want a shorter, pocket-friendly shape, a bigger battery and a screen you can actually use. Its 1600mAh battery is bigger than the XROS 4 Nano’s 1350mAh and the regular XROS 5’s 1500mAh. The 1.09-inch round touchscreen shows battery, power mode, pod resistance and a puff counter. Output runs up to 30W, and it charges at 2A in about 45 to 50 minutes.

Vaporesso XROS 5 Nano Kit with its touchscreen

The biggest reason to buy it is that nothing about your pods changes. It takes every XROS Series pod from 0.4Ω to 1.2Ω. Two COREX 3.0 mesh pods come in the kit: a 0.6Ω pre-installed for a warmer draw and a 0.8Ω for a tighter one.

The caution is handling, not quality. It is draw activated with no fire button, settings live on the touchscreen, and the airflow slider sits where your palm naturally covers it. It suits vapers who set it once and leave it.

This is an editorial review based on Vaporesso’s published specifications and user manual, US retailer listings, third-party reviews and the live Black Note product page. We have not completed an independent hands-on endurance test, so battery and pod life figures are other reviewers’ reports.

Design, size and build

The XROS 5 Nano is a short, wide block, 80.1mm tall, 54.3mm wide and 22.2mm deep, with the round touchscreen on the front. At 86g it feels solid and metal. The pod sits in the top and holds by magnet, and a lanyard comes in the box.

Vaporesso XROS 5 Nano Kit held in hand

The squarer shape divides opinion. Some reviewers find it fits a pocket better than a long stick. Others prefer the slimmer XROS 5 or XROS 6.

Vaporesso makes eight finishes: Black Satin, Orange Leatherette, Blue Leatherette, Yellow Satin, Damascus Silver, Damascus Pink, Color Burst and Nacre. The leatherette versions have a textured panel. Black Note stocks Black Satin and Orange Leatherette.

Battery life and charging

The battery

The 1600mAh battery is the biggest you can get in a compact XROS. Reviewers report about two days on the 0.8Ω pod in Normal mode, about two days on the 0.6Ω pod in Power mode, and three days or more on the 1.2Ω pod in Eco mode. One reviewer got just over two full 3mL pods per charge. Some owners report shorter life on the 0.6Ω pod, which runs at the highest power of the kit pods.

Charging

It charges over USB-C at 5V/2A. Most sources put a full charge at about 45 to 50 minutes, and the screen shows the charge percentage and time remaining. A USB-C cable comes in the box.

Power modes, touchscreen and controls

Power modes

On the 0.6Ω, 0.8Ω, 1.0Ω and 1.2Ω pods you choose between Power, Normal and Eco, and the device sets the wattage for that pod. Power runs warmer and uses more battery. Eco runs cooler and stretches the battery. With the 0.4Ω pod you set the wattage yourself on the touchscreen, from 5W to 30W. Vaporesso does not publish the exact wattage for each mode.

Vaporesso XROS 5 Nano Kit touchscreen modes and menus

The touchscreen

The 1.09-inch round display is sharp, responsive and easy to read. Per Vaporesso’s manual:

  • Swipe right on the home screen to change the power mode.
  • Swipe left to see your puff records and reports.
  • Swipe down for settings.
  • Press and hold to change the theme. There are 29 to choose from.

Settings and tracking

Settings include brightness, Power Save (the screen stays off while you puff), a device name of up to five characters, screen animations, and a factory reset. Tracking covers puff count, puff length and total time, with daily, weekly and monthly reports and puff reminders. One reviewer called these tools a little gimmicky, but they are easy to ignore if you do not want them.

The button and the lock

The single button does not fire the device. Click it five times to turn the XROS 5 Nano on or off. Press it once to lock the screen. To unlock, press it, then press and hold and slide up on the screen. Some owners say the screen can change settings in a pocket, so lock it before you put it away.

Pods and coils: everything that fits

The XROS 5 Nano takes every XROS Series pod, so pods from an XROS 3, 4, 5 or 6 all work. The kit pods use COREX 3.0 mesh, which reviewers say tastes fuller than the older COREX 2.0. Every XROS pod has the coil built in, so you replace the whole pod when the flavor fades.

Vaporesso XROS 5 Nano Kit COREX 3.0 mesh pod

In the US the 0.4Ω, 0.6Ω and 0.8Ω pods hold 3mL and the 1.0Ω and 1.2Ω pods hold 2mL. They fill from the top: pop off the mouthpiece and fill through the port, which seals itself. Vaporesso’s SSS design is there to stop leaks. The table shows the wattage Vaporesso recommends for each pod, taken from our XROS pod compatibility chart.

Vaporesso XROS 5 Nano Kit compatibility with all XROS series pods
  Power Draw E-liquid to use
0.4Ω pod (3mL) 25W; you set 5W to 30W Restricted lung, the loosest 70/30, lower nicotine freebase
0.6Ω COREX 3.0 pod (in the kit, 3mL) 21W Restricted lung, warm and dense 50/50 or 70/30
0.8Ω COREX 3.0 pod (in the kit, 3mL) 16W Mouth to lung, balanced 50/50 or Salt Nicotine
1.0Ω pod (2mL) 12W Tight mouth to lung Salt Nicotine or 50/50
1.2Ω pod (2mL) 10W Tightest mouth to lung Salt Nicotine or 50/50

Airflow and draw

A stepless slider on the side controls the airflow. Closed, it gives a pinhole-tight mouth to lung draw. Open, it moves to a restricted lung pull. Pair the slider with the right pod and you can cover anything from a cigarette-tight draw on the 1.2Ω pod to a loose, warm restricted lung hit on the 0.4Ω.

The catch, mentioned by several reviewers: when you hold the XROS 5 Nano in a fist, your palm or finger can cover the airflow slot. If the draw suddenly feels tight, check your grip before you blame the pod.

Which e-liquid to use in the XROS 5 Nano

Vaporesso does not publish an official e-liquid guide, but reviewers agree on the pattern: salt nicotine on higher-resistance pods at lower power, freebase on lower-resistance pods at higher power, and no thick high-VG e-liquid in the mouth to lung pods.

Matching Black Note e-liquid to each pod

  • 0.4Ω pod: 70VG/30PG at a lower nicotine level, such as 3 or 6mg/mL.
  • 0.6Ω pod (in the kit): 50VG/50PG, or 70VG/30PG if you like a warmer, denser draw.
  • 0.8Ω pod (in the kit): Black Note Salt Nicotine or 50VG/50PG. This is the pod most salt nicotine vapers settle on.
  • 1.0Ω and 1.2Ω pods: Black Note Salt Nicotine or 50VG/50PG for the tightest, coolest draw.

Every Black Note tobacco and menthol e-liquid comes in three formulations: 50VG/50PG and 70VG/30PG (each in nicotine-free, 3, 6, 12 and 18mg/mL) and Salt Nicotine (20, 30 and 50mg/mL). The flavors are naturally extracted tobacco with no added sweeteners. The Special Blend line is a good place to start.

What to avoid

  • Thick, high-VG e-liquid in the 0.8Ω, 1.0Ω and 1.2Ω pods.
  • High-strength salt nicotine in the 0.4Ω pod at higher wattage, which gives a much stronger hit than most people want.
  • Heavily sweetened e-liquids, which shorten pod life.

Sweeteners are the most common reason a coil tastes burnt before its time, because they leave a sticky residue on the mesh. Black Note e-liquids contain no added sweeteners, which helps a pod keep its flavor for longer.

First-time setup

  1. Charge it: plug in the USB-C cable and charge to full, about 45 to 50 minutes.
  2. Fill the pod: pop off the mouthpiece, fill through the port to just below the max line, and refit the mouthpiece.
  3. Prime it: wait about five minutes so the COREX 3.0 coil is fully soaked before your first draw.
  4. Turn it on: click the button five times.
  5. Pick a mode: swipe right on the home screen and start on Eco or Normal. Move to Power if you want it warmer.
  6. Set the airflow: close the slider for a tighter draw, open it for a looser one.

Care, coil life and troubleshooting

How long do the pods last?

Reviewers report about two weeks per pod for typical use, or roughly 25 to 40mL of e-liquid before the flavor drops. Heavy vapers and sweet e-liquids shorten that.

Everyday care

  • Lock the screen before you pocket it.
  • Wipe the pod base and device contacts at each refill.
  • Refill before the pod runs dry so the wick stays soaked.

Troubleshooting

  • Dry or burnt taste: check the pod has e-liquid and was primed, and drop to Eco or Normal. A burnt pod will not recover, so replace it.
  • Gurgling or spitback: the pod is overfilled or you are drawing too hard. Wipe the mouthpiece and take gentler pulls.
  • Moisture at the base: wipe the pod base and contacts. Some owners report light seepage on the 0.6Ω pod.
  • Draw feels tight: check your hand is not covering the airflow slider.
  • Settings changed by themselves: lock the screen with one press of the button before pocketing it.
  • Pod not reading: remove it, wipe the contacts and reseat it.

Sweeteners are the most common reason a coil tastes burnt before its time, because they leave a sticky residue on the mesh. Black Note e-liquids contain no added sweeteners, which helps a pod keep its flavor for longer.

The good, the bad and the ugly

The good

  • 1600mAh battery, more than the XROS 5 and XROS 4 Nano, with 2A charging in about 45 to 50 minutes.
  • Sharp, responsive 1.09-inch touchscreen with 29 themes.
  • Power, Normal and Eco modes, plus manual wattage on the 0.4Ω pod.
  • Every XROS Series pod fits, and the kit’s COREX 3.0 pods taste fuller than COREX 2.0.
  • Puff tracking, reports and reminders if you want them.
  • Solid metal build and a lanyard in the box.

The bad

  • Draw activated only. There is no fire button.
  • The side airflow slider is easy to cover with your hand.
  • Settings live on the touchscreen, which takes a minute to learn.
  • Manual wattage only works with the 0.4Ω pod.
  • The squarer shape is not for everyone.

The ugly

  • The touchscreen can change settings in a pocket unless you lock it.
  • Vaporesso does not publish the exact wattage for each power mode.
  • Some owners report shorter battery life and light seepage on the 0.6Ω pod.
  • The kit comes in two versions, 0.6Ω + 0.8Ω or 0.4Ω + 0.8Ω, so check the box list before you buy.
