Jam Monster Strawberry Review: Strawberry Jam on Buttered Toast

Jam Monster Strawberry is the flavor that built the brand. It is the one most people picture when they hear the name, and it is the reference point every other bottle in the line gets measured against.

This is an editorial product review. It is based on the maker’s stated flavor description and the live Black Note product record. Nobody at Black Note has vaped this bottle, so you will not find tasting notes or a score below.

At a glance
Flavor Jam Monster Strawberry is strawberry jam spread over warm buttered toast. It is a bakery profile rather than a straight fruit or tobacco one. The jam leads on the inhale and the buttered toast arrives on the exhale.
Formats A 100mL freebase bottle at 75VG/25PG, and a 30mL salt nicotine bottle at 50VG/50PG.
Strengths 3mg and 6mg in the 100mL freebase. 24mg and 48mg in the 30mL salt nicotine.
Best device fit The 30mL salt bottle suits a mouth-to-lung pod. The 100mL freebase suits a restricted direct-lung sub-ohm coil.
Sweetness Our judgment, not a measurement: sweet, with the buttered toast the only thing balancing it.
Coil behavior Sweetened bakery blends are the hardest category on coils. A general statement about the category, not a test of this bottle.
Bottom line The benchmark bakery e-liquid in this catalogue, and the one to start with if you have never had a jam and toast blend.

Who this is for

You will get on with it if you want a dessert you can stay on rather than a novelty. Strawberry is the least polarizing of the jams, and the toast keeps it from cloying the way a pure strawberry candy would after an hour.

Skip it if you want fresh fruit. This is cooked fruit on bread, and if you were hoping for something crisp and juicy you will find it heavy. It is also not the bottle for anyone who dislikes bakery notes in general.

One thing worth knowing: If you have tried this before and found it just sweet, with no bread at all, the liquid is probably not the problem. Buttered toast is the first thing that disappears on a wide-open airflow or an overly hot coil.

What it tastes like

Strawberry jam leads, and it is jam rather than fresh fruit. It reads cooked and sweetened, closer to what comes out of a jar than what comes off a plant, with the slight syrupy edge that goes with it.

The toast arrives on the exhale and it is the part that separates this from a plain strawberry e-liquid. There is bread, and behind the bread there is butter, which is the note that stops the sweetness from becoming flat. How much of that butter you actually taste depends almost entirely on your setup, which is the practical point of everything below.

Retailer descriptions across the board put strawberry jam first and toast second, with butter named explicitly. The most common observation is that the toast is more present here than in the darker berry flavors in the line.

We have not tasted this bottle, so treat the description above as a reading of the maker’s own wording rather than our tasting notes.

Formats, strengths and what to pick

The 100mL freebase bottle is mixed at 75VG/25PG. That is a vapor-forward ratio suited to sub-ohm tanks, box mods and coils rated under 1.0 ohm. On a jam and toast blend the high VG does real work: it gives the butter and bread notes enough body to sit under the jam instead of disappearing behind it.

The 30mL salt nicotine bottle is mixed at 50VG/50PG. The balanced ratio is thinner, so it feeds small pod coils without starving them, and the extra PG sharpens the jam. The trade is that the toast reads fainter in a 50/50 pod than it does in a 75VG tank, which is the biggest difference between the two formats here.

The more vapor your device makes per puff, the lower the strength you want. If you are between two strengths, go down rather than up: a strength that is slightly too low is a minor annoyance, and one that is too high will put you off the bottle entirely.

If you are moving away from cigarettes and unsure where to start, the vape quiz covers strength and device together in about a minute.

Device fit and settings

Match the format to the hardware. This is the single most common mistake made with a 100mL bottle.

For the 30mL salt version at 50VG/50PG, use a mouth-to-lung pod with a coil around 1.0 to 1.2 ohm. The tighter draw concentrates the blend and the 50/50 mix wicks fast enough that you will not chase dry hits. The Black Note Pod System is our own refillable and is built around 50/50 liquids. The Uwell Caliburn G3 Pro adds adjustable airflow, which is the main lever on how sweet this reads, and the Vaporesso XROS 6 Mini is the steadier choice for all-day carry.

For the 100mL freebase version at 75VG/25PG, go sub-ohm. A restricted direct-lung coil around 0.6 ohm suits this better than a wide-open cloud setup, because big airflow thins the jam out. The Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2 handles 75VG without a full tank setup, and the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 is the one to pick if flavor matters more to you than pocket size.

Bakery notes need heat to show up, but they burn before the fruit does. That gives you a narrow band: too low and you get sweet strawberry with no bread, too high and the butter turns acrid. Start at the bottom of your coil’s range and climb in single watts until the toast appears, then stop there.

Opening the airflow thins the jam and pushes the blend toward a generic sweet fruit; closing it down concentrates the bakery side and warms the draw. On this family, err toward a tighter airflow than you would use for a plain fruit. The toast is the part you lose first.

Prime a new coil properly by wetting the exposed cotton, filling, then leaving it five to ten minutes before the first pull. At 75VG the liquid moves slowly, and not waiting is the most common way to ruin a coil on day one.

Coil life and care

This is where a jam and toast blend costs you. Sweetened bakery e-liquids are the hardest category on coils, because sugar and the bread and butter notes both caramelize onto hot wire. Strawberry is on the lighter end of the Jam Monster range for coil life, but that is a comparison within a demanding family rather than a claim that it is easy on hardware. Expect noticeably shorter coil life than a fruit blend, and plan on it rather than being surprised by it. This is a general statement about sweetened bakery e-liquid; we have not tested coil life on this bottle.

Three things genuinely help: run at the lower end of your coil’s range, avoid chain pulls that let the wick run dry, and rinse a pod between refills when switching flavors. Mesh coils outlast round wire here.

If coil cost is the thing that bothers you, that is a real argument for an unsweetened blend rather than something to work around. Black Note Special Blend and Special Blend 3.0 are naturally extracted tobacco e-liquids made without added sweeteners.

Alternatives in the range and beyond

Against PB and Jam Monster Strawberry, this is the lighter of the two by a clear margin. The peanut butter version puts a fatty, savory layer between the jam and the toast, which makes it richer and considerably harder work over a full day. If you like the idea of this but want more of it, that is the bottle. If you already find this sweet, it is not.

Within the Jam Monster line, Blueberry and Blackberry are darker and less sweet, Apple is the crispest, and Mixed Berry stacks three fruits where this keeps to one. Strawberry is the easiest starting point of the nine.

PB & Jam Monster Strawberry is the same jam and toast with peanut butter added, which is the obvious next step if you want the blend heavier.

Fruit Monster Strawberry Lime is the same fruit with no bakery at all, which makes a useful contrast bottle when you want a break from dessert.

Verdict

The benchmark bakery e-liquid in this catalogue, and the one to start with if you have never had a jam and toast blend. Run it on a tighter draw at the lower end of your coil’s range and the butter stays where it belongs.

Both formats sit on the same page, so you can pick the bottle that matches your device rather than buying twice. Shop Jam Monster Strawberry at Black Note.

Frequently asked questions

Jam Monster Strawberry is strawberry jam spread over warm buttered toast. It is a bakery profile rather than a straight fruit or tobacco one. The jam leads on the inhale and the buttered toast arrives on the exhale. We have not tasted it; that is the maker's description as carried on our product page.

They are different bottles for different devices. The 100mL freebase is 75VG/25PG in 3mg and 6mg, made for sub-ohm tanks and box mods. The 30mL salt nicotine is 50VG/50PG in 24mg and 48mg, made for pods and low-wattage devices. Salt nicotine stays smoother at high strength, which is why the pod format carries the bigger numbers.

Four strengths across two formats. The 100mL freebase comes in 3mg and 6mg, which suits sub-ohm tanks where each puff delivers more vapor. The 30mL salt nicotine comes in 24mg and 48mg, which suits pod systems where the puff is smaller. If you are between two strengths, go down rather than up.

Sweetened bakery blends are the hardest category on coils. A general statement about the category, not a test of this bottle. Running at the lower end of your coil's range and avoiding chain pulls both help. We have not measured coil life on this bottle, so treat that as general guidance rather than a test result.
