Jam Monster Raspberry Review: Tart Jam, Warm Butter

Jam Monster Raspberry is the tartest of the berry jams and the brightest bottle in the line after apple. It is the one that reads most clearly as a specific fruit rather than as generic sweetness.
This is an editorial product review. It is based on the maker’s stated flavor description and the live Black Note product record. Nobody at Black Note has vaped this bottle, so you will not find tasting notes or a score below.
Who this is for
You will get on with it if you like tart fruit and you want a bakery blend that still tastes fresh. It is the best of the nine for warm weather.
Skip it if you want comfort food. Raspberry is the least cozy of the jams, and if you came for warmth the blueberry or the grape will serve you better.
One thing worth knowing: Tart fruits read harsher as nicotine strength climbs, because the throat hit stacks with the acidity. If 48mg salt has ever felt scratchy to you on a fruit blend, this is the one to buy in 24mg.
What it tastes like
Raspberry carries a natural sharpness that survives being cooked into jam, and that sharpness is the whole character here. It arrives immediately on the inhale and it does not soften much, which keeps the blend lively where the darker berries go rounded.
The butter matters more here than in most of the line, because it is the only thing balancing the tartness. When the setup is right you get a genuine contrast between sharp fruit and rich bread. When it is wrong, the raspberry is left standing alone and the blend reads thin and slightly sour.
Retailer descriptions name raspberry jam over warm buttery toast and consistently flag the tartness as what sets it apart from the other berry jams in the line.
We have not tasted this bottle, so treat the description above as a reading of the maker’s own wording rather than our tasting notes.
Formats, strengths and what to pick
The 100mL freebase bottle is mixed at 75VG/25PG. That is a vapor-forward ratio suited to sub-ohm tanks, box mods and coils rated under 1.0 ohm. On a jam and toast blend the high VG does real work: it gives the butter and bread notes enough body to sit under the jam instead of disappearing behind it.
The 30mL salt nicotine bottle is mixed at 50VG/50PG. The balanced ratio is thinner, so it feeds small pod coils without starving them, and the extra PG sharpens the jam. The trade is that the toast reads fainter in a 50/50 pod than it does in a 75VG tank, which is the biggest difference between the two formats here.
The more vapor your device makes per puff, the lower the strength you want. If you are between two strengths, go down rather than up: a strength that is slightly too low is a minor annoyance, and one that is too high will put you off the bottle entirely.
If you are moving away from cigarettes and unsure where to start, the vape quiz covers strength and device together in about a minute.
| VG/PG | Strengths | Suits | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100mL freebase | 75VG/25PG | 3mg, 6mg | Sub-ohm tanks and pod mods |
| 30mL salt nicotine | 50VG/50PG | 24mg, 48mg | Pods and low-wattage devices |
Device fit and settings
Match the format to the hardware. This is the single most common mistake made with a 100mL bottle.
For the 30mL salt version at 50VG/50PG, use a mouth-to-lung pod with a coil around 1.0 to 1.2 ohm. The tighter draw concentrates the blend and the 50/50 mix wicks fast enough that you will not chase dry hits. The Black Note Pod System is our own refillable and is built around 50/50 liquids. The Uwell Caliburn G3 Pro adds adjustable airflow, which is the main lever on how sweet this reads, and the Vaporesso XROS 6 Mini is the steadier choice for all-day carry.
For the 100mL freebase version at 75VG/25PG, go sub-ohm. A restricted direct-lung coil around 0.6 ohm suits this better than a wide-open cloud setup, because big airflow thins the jam out. The Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2 handles 75VG without a full tank setup, and the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 is the one to pick if flavor matters more to you than pocket size.
Raspberry is the most power-sensitive of the berries in the other direction from apple: it needs a little heat to bring the butter up to meet the tartness. Too low and the blend reads sour and flat. Climb until the exhale turns rich rather than sharp, then stop.
Opening the airflow thins the jam and pushes the blend toward a generic sweet fruit; closing it down concentrates the bakery side and warms the draw. On this family, err toward a tighter airflow than you would use for a plain fruit. The toast is the part you lose first.
Prime a new coil properly by wetting the exposed cotton, filling, then leaving it five to ten minutes before the first pull. At 75VG the liquid moves slowly, and not waiting is the most common way to ruin a coil on day one.
| Starting wattage | Draw | Which bottle | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.2 ohm | 8 to 14W | Mouth to lung | 30mL salt nicotine |
| 1.0 ohm | 10 to 16W | Mouth to lung | 30mL salt nicotine |
| 0.8 ohm | 12 to 20W | Loose mouth to lung | Either |
| 0.6 ohm | 15 to 25W | Restricted direct lung | 100mL freebase |
| 0.4 ohm | 20 to 35W | Direct lung | 100mL freebase |
Coil life and care
This is where a jam and toast blend costs you. Sweetened bakery e-liquids are the hardest category on coils, because sugar and the bread and butter notes both caramelize onto hot wire. Raspberry sits with strawberry at the lighter end of this family for coil life, helped by the acidity cutting some of the residue. Expect noticeably shorter coil life than a fruit blend, and plan on it rather than being surprised by it. This is a general statement about sweetened bakery e-liquid; we have not tested coil life on this bottle.
Three things genuinely help: run at the lower end of your coil’s range, avoid chain pulls that let the wick run dry, and rinse a pod between refills when switching flavors. Mesh coils outlast round wire here.
If coil cost is the thing that bothers you, that is a real argument for an unsweetened blend rather than something to work around. Black Note Special Blend and Special Blend 3.0 are naturally extracted tobacco e-liquids made without added sweeteners.
Alternatives in the range and beyond
Against Fruit Monster Blueberry Raspberry Lemon, you can hear how much the toast is doing. Strip the bakery out and add citrus and raspberry becomes a summer fruit blend. Keep the toast and it becomes a dessert. The fruit is doing less of the work than you would assume.
Within the Jam Monster line, Blackberry is the other restrained option but deeper and less sharp, Strawberry is the sweet counterpart, and Black Cherry is the nearest in tang with more body behind it.
Fruit Monster Blueberry Raspberry Lemon is raspberry with citrus and no bakery, which shows how much of the character here is the fruit rather than the toast.
Custard Monster Vanilla is plain cream to sit against the tartness, a better contrast bottle than another berry.
Verdict
The brightest berry jam in the line and the best of them in summer. Give it a couple of watts more than you would give the strawberry so the butter comes up to meet the fruit.
