Jam Monster Grape Review: Grape Jelly and Toast

Jam Monster Grape is the sweetest bottle in the line and the most nostalgic, because grape jelly on white bread is a specific thing that most American palates already have a memory of.

This is an editorial product review. It is based on the maker’s stated flavor description and the live Black Note product record. Nobody at Black Note has vaped this bottle, so you will not find tasting notes or a score below.

At a glance
Flavor Jam Monster Grape is rich grape jam spread over warm, buttery white toast. It is a bakery profile rather than a straight fruit or tobacco one. The jam leads on the inhale and the buttered toast arrives on the exhale.
Formats A 100mL freebase bottle at 75VG/25PG, and a 30mL salt nicotine bottle at 50VG/50PG.
Strengths 3mg and 6mg in the 100mL freebase. 24mg and 48mg in the 30mL salt nicotine.
Best device fit The 30mL salt bottle suits a mouth-to-lung pod. The 100mL freebase suits a restricted direct-lung sub-ohm coil.
Sweetness Our judgment, not a measurement: sweet, with the buttered toast the only thing balancing it.
Coil behavior Sweetened bakery blends are the hardest category on coils. A general statement about the category, not a test of this bottle.
Bottom line The sweetest and most nostalgic bottle in the line, and the one most improved by its peanut butter counterpart.

Who this is for

You will get on with it if you want the sweetest thing in the catalogue, or you want the nostalgia. It also works well as an evening bottle alongside something plainer during the day.

Skip it if you are sensitive to sweeteners or you want an all-day flavor. This is the most fatiguing of the nine, and it is the hardest of them on coils for the same reason.

One thing worth knowing: Candied grape is one of the flavors that lingers hardest in a pod. If you run one device, expect the next two fills to carry a grape edge no matter what you put in.

What it tastes like

The grape is the purple, candied kind rather than anything resembling fresh fruit off a vine. That is deliberate and it is what makes the flavor work: it matches the jelly people remember rather than the grape they would actually eat.

Against that sweetness the buttered white toast reads as the savory half, and the contrast is wider here than anywhere else in the line. It is also the flavor most likely to feel like too much after an hour, which is worth knowing before you buy the 100mL bottle rather than the 30mL.

Retailer descriptions name rich grape jam and warm buttery white toast. Grape jelly sandwiches are the comparison that comes up most often, and sweetness is the recurring note.

We have not tasted this bottle, so treat the description above as a reading of the maker’s own wording rather than our tasting notes.

Formats, strengths and what to pick

The 100mL freebase bottle is mixed at 75VG/25PG. That is a vapor-forward ratio suited to sub-ohm tanks, box mods and coils rated under 1.0 ohm. On a jam and toast blend the high VG does real work: it gives the butter and bread notes enough body to sit under the jam instead of disappearing behind it.

The 30mL salt nicotine bottle is mixed at 50VG/50PG. The balanced ratio is thinner, so it feeds small pod coils without starving them, and the extra PG sharpens the jam. The trade is that the toast reads fainter in a 50/50 pod than it does in a 75VG tank, which is the biggest difference between the two formats here.

The more vapor your device makes per puff, the lower the strength you want. If you are between two strengths, go down rather than up: a strength that is slightly too low is a minor annoyance, and one that is too high will put you off the bottle entirely.

If you are moving away from cigarettes and unsure where to start, the vape quiz covers strength and device together in about a minute.

Device fit and settings

Match the format to the hardware. This is the single most common mistake made with a 100mL bottle.

For the 30mL salt version at 50VG/50PG, use a mouth-to-lung pod with a coil around 1.0 to 1.2 ohm. The tighter draw concentrates the blend and the 50/50 mix wicks fast enough that you will not chase dry hits. The Black Note Pod System is our own refillable and is built around 50/50 liquids. The Uwell Caliburn G3 Pro adds adjustable airflow, which is the main lever on how sweet this reads, and the Vaporesso XROS 6 Mini is the steadier choice for all-day carry.

For the 100mL freebase version at 75VG/25PG, go sub-ohm. A restricted direct-lung coil around 0.6 ohm suits this better than a wide-open cloud setup, because big airflow thins the jam out. The Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2 handles 75VG without a full tank setup, and the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 is the one to pick if flavor matters more to you than pocket size.

Grape needs less power than any other bottle in the line. The sweetness amplifies with heat and turns syrupy fast, and the toast is buried under it long before you reach the top of a coil’s range. Start low and resist climbing.

Opening the airflow thins the jam and pushes the blend toward a generic sweet fruit; closing it down concentrates the bakery side and warms the draw. On this family, err toward a tighter airflow than you would use for a plain fruit. The toast is the part you lose first.

Prime a new coil properly by wetting the exposed cotton, filling, then leaving it five to ten minutes before the first pull. At 75VG the liquid moves slowly, and not waiting is the most common way to ruin a coil on day one.

Coil life and care

This is where a jam and toast blend costs you. Sweetened bakery e-liquids are the hardest category on coils, because sugar and the bread and butter notes both caramelize onto hot wire. This is the hardest of the nine on coils. Candied sweetener is the most aggressive thing in the range short of the peanut butter blends, and it darkens wire quickly. Expect noticeably shorter coil life than a fruit blend, and plan on it rather than being surprised by it. This is a general statement about sweetened bakery e-liquid; we have not tested coil life on this bottle.

Three things genuinely help: run at the lower end of your coil’s range, avoid chain pulls that let the wick run dry, and rinse a pod between refills when switching flavors. Mesh coils outlast round wire here.

If coil cost is the thing that bothers you, that is a real argument for an unsweetened blend rather than something to work around. Black Note Special Blend and Special Blend 3.0 are naturally extracted tobacco e-liquids made without added sweeteners.

Alternatives in the range and beyond

Against PB and Jam Monster Grape, the peanut butter version is the more complete flavor, and that is not the usual outcome when a line adds a heavy note. Grape jelly on its own runs sweet with little to hold it back. Add peanut butter and the fat cuts the sugar, which is precisely why the sandwich exists. If you are buying one of the two, buy that one.

Within the Jam Monster line, nothing else is this sweet. Strawberry is the nearest and noticeably more restrained, Apple sits at the opposite end, and Blackberry is the one to pick if this proves too much.

PB & Jam Monster Grape is the peanut butter version, which is the classic pairing and considerably more balanced than this on its own.

Fruit Monster Strawberry Lime is something tart and unsweetened by comparison, to reset the palate between grape sessions.

Verdict

The sweetest and most nostalgic bottle in the line, and the one most improved by its peanut butter counterpart. Run it low, run it in the 30mL bottle first, and budget for coils.

Both formats sit on the same page, so you can pick the bottle that matches your device rather than buying twice. Shop Jam Monster Grape at Black Note.

Frequently asked questions

Jam Monster Grape is rich grape jam spread over warm, buttery white toast. It is a bakery profile rather than a straight fruit or tobacco one. The jam leads on the inhale and the buttered toast arrives on the exhale. We have not tasted it; that is the maker's description as carried on our product page.

They are different bottles for different devices. The 100mL freebase is 75VG/25PG in 3mg and 6mg, made for sub-ohm tanks and box mods. The 30mL salt nicotine is 50VG/50PG in 24mg and 48mg, made for pods and low-wattage devices. Salt nicotine stays smoother at high strength, which is why the pod format carries the bigger numbers.

Four strengths across two formats. The 100mL freebase comes in 3mg and 6mg, which suits sub-ohm tanks where each puff delivers more vapor. The 30mL salt nicotine comes in 24mg and 48mg, which suits pod systems where the puff is smaller. If you are between two strengths, go down rather than up.

Sweetened bakery blends are the hardest category on coils. A general statement about the category, not a test of this bottle. Running at the lower end of your coil's range and avoiding chain pulls both help. We have not measured coil life on this bottle, so treat that as general guidance rather than a test result.
