PB & Jam Monster Banana Review: Peanut Butter and Banana on Toast

PB & Jam Monster Banana Review: Peanut Butter and Banana on Toast

PB and Jam Monster Banana is the odd one out in this line, because there is no jam in it. Banana replaces the preserve entirely, which makes it a different kind of sandwich and a different kind of e-liquid.

This is an editorial product review. It is based on the maker’s stated flavor description and the live Black Note product record. Nobody at Black Note has vaped this bottle, so you will not find tasting notes or a score below.

At a glance
Flavor PB and Jam Monster Banana is creamy peanut butter and ripe banana on warm buttered toast. It is a bakery profile rather than a fruit or tobacco one. The peanut butter arrives first and stays, with the toast closing the exhale.
Formats A 100mL freebase bottle at 75VG/25PG, and a 30mL salt nicotine bottle at 50VG/50PG.
Strengths 3mg and 6mg in the 100mL freebase. 24mg and 48mg in the 30mL salt nicotine.
Best device fit The 30mL salt bottle suits a mouth-to-lung pod. The 100mL freebase suits a restricted direct-lung sub-ohm coil.
Sweetness Our judgment, not a measurement: the heaviest and richest in the range, with the jam cutting the fat rather than the sugar.
Coil behavior The heaviest blend in the range and the hardest on coils. A general category statement, not a test of this bottle.
Bottom line The richest bottle in the catalogue and the least balanced of this line, which will be the appeal for some people and the problem for others.

Who this is for

You will get on with it if you like banana and you want the richest thing in the catalogue. It is closer to a dessert than to a sandwich and it works best as a short evening flavor.

Skip it if you want contrast or freshness. There is no acidity anywhere in this blend, which is exactly what makes it heavy.

One thing worth knowing: Banana is one of the flavors that changes most with coil age. On a fresh coil it reads as ripe fruit. As the coil wears it slides toward banana candy, which is the clearest signal in the catalogue that it is time to change.

What it tastes like

Banana here is ripe rather than green or candied. It is soft, slightly creamy and it sits much closer to the peanut butter in weight than a jam would, which is why this blend reads as one thing rather than as two layers.

That closeness is the whole character. Where the strawberry and grape bottles give you contrast between sharp fruit and heavy fat, this one gives you a single rich note with no relief in it. Some people find that comforting. Others find it heavy going after twenty minutes, and both reactions are reasonable.

Retailer descriptions name creamy peanut butter and ripe banana on warm buttered toast. Unlike the other two bottles in this line, no listing mentions jam, because there is none in it.

We have not tasted this bottle, so treat the description above as a reading of the maker’s own wording rather than our tasting notes.

Formats, strengths and what to pick

The 100mL freebase bottle is mixed at 75VG/25PG. This blend needs the high VG more than most: peanut butter is a heavy, fatty note and it wants the body a 75VG mix provides. In a thin mix it reads as a vague nuttiness rather than peanut butter.

The 30mL salt nicotine bottle is mixed at 50VG/50PG. It wicks properly in pod coils, but be honest about the trade: the peanut butter is the first thing to thin out at 50/50. The jam stays bright and the toast survives, while the nut note steps back.

The more vapor your device makes per puff, the lower the strength you want. If you are between two strengths, go down rather than up: a strength that is slightly too low is a minor annoyance, and one that is too high will put you off the bottle entirely.

If you are moving away from cigarettes and unsure where to start, the vape quiz covers strength and device together in about a minute.

Device fit and settings

Match the format to the hardware. This is the single most common mistake made with a 100mL bottle.

For the 30mL salt version at 50VG/50PG, use a mouth-to-lung pod with a coil around 1.0 to 1.2 ohm. The tighter draw concentrates the blend and the 50/50 mix wicks fast enough that you will not chase dry hits. The Black Note Pod System is our own refillable and is built around 50/50 liquids. The Uwell Caliburn G3 Pro adds adjustable airflow, which is the main lever on how sweet this reads, and the Vaporesso XROS 6 Mini is the steadier choice for all-day carry.

For the 100mL freebase version at 75VG/25PG, go sub-ohm. A restricted direct-lung coil around 0.6 ohm suits this better than a wide-open cloud setup, because big airflow thins the jam out. The Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2 handles 75VG without a full tank setup, and the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 is the one to pick if flavor matters more to you than pocket size.

Both notes here want heat, which makes this the easiest of the three to dial in. The limit is the butter rather than either the banana or the peanut. When the exhale turns sharp at the back of the throat, you have passed the ceiling.

Airflow matters more here than on any other Monster line. A wide-open draw pulls the blend apart into sweet jam and a vague savory smear. A tight draw keeps peanut butter, toast and jam stacked in the order they are meant to arrive. If this blend has ever tasted muddy to you, close the airflow before you change anything else.

Prime a new coil properly by wetting the exposed cotton, filling, then leaving it five to ten minutes before the first pull. At 75VG the liquid moves slowly, and not waiting is the most common way to ruin a coil on day one.

Coil life and care

Peanut butter is the heaviest thing Monster Vape Labs puts in a bottle, and it behaves that way on a coil. Between the nut note, the butter and the sweetened jam, this is the shortest coil life in the range. Peanut butter and banana together sit at the bottom of the catalogue for coil life, alongside the other two bottles in this line. Expect to change coils sooner than on any other flavor here, and expect a fresh coil to taste noticeably better than a week-old one. This is a general statement about heavy dessert e-liquid; we have not tested coil life on this bottle.

Three things genuinely help: run at the lower end of your coil’s range, avoid chain pulls that let the wick run dry, and rinse a pod between refills when switching flavors. Mesh coils outlast round wire here.

If coil cost is the thing that bothers you, that is a real argument for an unsweetened blend rather than something to work around. Black Note Special Blend and Special Blend 3.0 are naturally extracted tobacco e-liquids made without added sweeteners.

Alternatives in the range and beyond

This is the only bottle in the line with no plain counterpart, because Jam Monster does not make a banana. The nearest comparison is Custard Monster Banana, which puts the same fruit on cream instead of peanut butter and toast. That one is sweeter and considerably lighter, and it is the better all-day option of the two.

Within this line, Strawberry and Grape both give you fruit acidity against the peanut butter. This one does not, which makes it the richest of the three and the one least suited to long sessions.

Custard Monster Banana is the same fruit on a cream base, which is lighter and sweeter than this and a useful contrast.

Fruit Monster Strawberry Banana is banana with strawberry and no bakery, the lightest treatment of this fruit in the catalogue.

Verdict

The richest bottle in the catalogue and the least balanced of this line, which will be the appeal for some people and the problem for others. Buy the 30mL first if you are not certain.

Both formats sit on the same page, so you can pick the bottle that matches your device rather than buying twice. Shop PB & Jam Monster Banana at Black Note.

Frequently asked questions

PB and Jam Monster Banana is creamy peanut butter and ripe banana on warm buttered toast. It is a bakery profile rather than a fruit or tobacco one. The peanut butter arrives first and stays, with the toast closing the exhale. We have not tasted it; that is the maker's description as carried on our product page.

They are different bottles for different devices. The 100mL freebase is 75VG/25PG in 3mg and 6mg, made for sub-ohm tanks and box mods. The 30mL salt nicotine is 50VG/50PG in 24mg and 48mg, made for pods and low-wattage devices. Salt nicotine stays smoother at high strength, which is why the pod format carries the bigger numbers.

Four strengths across two formats. The 100mL freebase comes in 3mg and 6mg, which suits sub-ohm tanks where each puff delivers more vapor. The 30mL salt nicotine comes in 24mg and 48mg, which suits pod systems where the puff is smaller. If you are between two strengths, go down rather than up.

The heaviest blend in the range and the hardest on coils. A general category statement, not a test of this bottle. Running at the lower end of your coil's range and avoiding chain pulls both help. We have not measured coil life on this bottle, so treat that as general guidance rather than a test result.
