There are many factors that can influence the flavor and throat-hit you get from your e-liquid, and ultimately, it does come down to personal preference. However, if you’re not satisfied with the flavor or throat hit you’re getting, there are a few things you can try.
Upgrade Your Atomizer
The atomizer you’re using is a big part of the flavor you get from your e-liquid. Rebuildable dripping atomizers (RDAs) are the best for flavor, but if you aren’t ready to start rebuilding, bottom coil clearomizers are generally better for taste than top-coil ones. Rebuildable atomizers also boost your vapor production, which can help strengthen the throat hit.
Find the Sweet Spot
If you have a variable voltage or variable wattage device, try adjusting the power to maximize the flavor of your juice. E-liquids tend to have a sweet spot when it comes to flavor, so experiment with settings until you find the best one. Higher powers are also better for throat hit.
Change Flavors
It’s also a good idea to change your flavors fairly regularly. This obviously doesn’t improve the e-liquid itself, but if you vape the same one for a long time the flavor can start to seem muted, so changing regularly keeps the flavors more noticeable.
Use Clean Wicks
Old wicks can get gunked up with e-liquid and may still bear some lingering flavor from the last e-liquid you used. The best approach is to use fresh wicks when you change flavor (which is easy on rebuildable atomizers), but you can also clean your clearomizers to remove any residual e-liquid from the wick.
Increase Your Nicotine and/or PG
Generally, the more PG in your e-liquid, the better the throat hit. For a fixed PG/VG ratio (with Black Note, it’s 50/50) there is a limited amount you can do about throat hit aside from using a more efficient atomizer. However, higher nicotine levels produce stronger throat hits, so you could go up a level to improve it.
