What do I do When Vape Liquid Gets on My Skin?

Vaping can be amazing. The flavors, the experience, the community… but it’s not all rainbows and unicorns. Sometimes accidents happen, and vape liquid gets on skin. Do we freak out? Do we start making crazy comments in the chat rooms? No! Of course not! (Hopefully.) This is one of those times when we must rely on good old vaping skin safety knowledge to help us through.

In this article, We’ll talk about what to do when vape liquid gets on your skin.

We will also find out whether vape juice irritates the skin and what happens if you accidentally swallow vape juice.

Can E-juice Be Absorbed Through the Skin?

Yes, an e-juice can be absorbed through the skin.

While we do not recommend using nicotine products on your skin, eLiquid can spill and be absorbed into your bloodstream. The amount of nicotine that will get in will depend on how much liquid you apply to your skin, how long it stays there, and how much nicotine is in the liquid.

Because nicotine is toxic, it’s essential to vape cautiously and store vape devices in safe places.

What to Do When Vape Liquid Gets on Your Skin

Chances are that you have come across a vaping liquid warning at some point – Nicotine can be toxic if inhaled or ingested and may irritate if it contacts the skin.

However, the nicotine in commercial vape liquids can not cause serious injuries. So, do not panic if an e-juice spills on your skin.

Wash off the vape liquid straight after it gets on your legs, hands, or arm with plenty of running warm water. Do not use soap, as it increases the chances of nicotine being absorbed through the skin. Also, don’t rub the affected section aggressively, as this will aggravate it.

Does Vape Juice Irritate Skin?

Nicotine is a known skin irritant and can cause allergic reactions on contact with the skin. The reaction can include redness, swelling, itching, or blisters.

The active ingredients in eLiquids can be irritating to the skin. While there are no documented cases of eLiquid causing severe allergic reactions or chemical burns, it’s best to avoid getting any liquid on the skin.

What Happens If You Accidentally Get Vape Juice in Your Mouth?

Some of the reasons to get an e-juice into your mouth accidentally include:

  • Hardware problems – A damaged or malfunctioning vape device can result in leakages.
  • Attempts to take quick hits– Too much pressure when vaping may result in the e-juice spilling out.
  • Overfilling the tank – If using refillable devices, surplus liquid will find its way out to your mouth.

Should we Worry?

Although we sell e-juices in many flavors, getting the juice into your mouth is unpleasant and nobody would want to swallow it. If you accidentally get vape juice into your mouth, don’t panic. The ingredients in the juice, like vegetable glycerin and propylene, which can be found in food products, are not harmful.

However, we do not recommend swallowing vape juices intentionally.

What to Do If You Accidentally Get Vape Juice in Your Mouth

If you accidentally get vape juice in your mouth, here is what to do:

Step 1: Rinse your mouth

Occasionally, we get a few e-juice drops into our mouths. If that happens, do not drink water or other liquids to wash it down. Instead, spit it out. Don’t let it stay on your tongue for too long. Take other preventive measures like brushing your teeth and gargling mouthwash. This will help dilute and remove juice traces.

Step 2: Be keen to note any side effects and seek medical attention

Keep an eye on any side effects that will manifest. You may feel nauseous and if the condition persists, seek medical attention.

Step 3: Determine what caused the accident

After all is settled and you are safe, we try to understand what caused the accident to ensure it doesn’t reoccur.

Vaping Skin Safety Wrap Up

Vaping can be safe and fun, but you need to be aware of the potential dangers that can come with it. Accidental leaks can make vape liquid get on the skin. However, knowing what to do will help you handle the situation and prevent a recurrence. We recommend you adjust to safer vaping techniques or get to know your device for enhanced vaping skin safety.
