Menthol Tobacco

Strengths shown in the selector change with stock. No single number fits everyone, and a higher number is not a better choice. Menthol adds a throat sensation of its own, so there is no need to reach high: if you smoked full-flavor menthols, 6 mg in 50VG/50PG or 20 mg salt in a pod is a sensible first bottle; if you smoked menthol lights, start at 3 mg.

Menthol Tobacco is a full natural tobacco extract with mint on top, so it leaves more on a coil than a light blend does. Expect to change coils sooner than you would with Special Blend Menthol, which gets an extra purification step for exactly that reason. There are no sweeteners in it, which is the part that matters most for coil life; what builds up is tobacco, not sugar. If you run a pod all day and coil life matters more than the fuller body, Special Blend Menthol is the better fit.

The propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin are USP and Kosher certified.

The mint is the part worth reading twice. Our menthol comes from Mentha arvensis, a mint chosen because it contains no pulegone, a compound the FDA banned as a synthetic food additive that still shows up in many mint and menthol e-liquids. Most menthol vape juice is an ice-flavor formula with no tobacco underneath; ours is tobacco first, pulegone-free mint on top.

Menthol Tobacco contains no artificial flavors, added sweeteners, diacetyl, acetyl propionyl, acetoin, characterizing flavors, dyes, or synthetic nicotine. The 0 mg option contains no nicotine.

We steep real sun-cured Oriental leaf in a cold maceration for six to eight weeks, filter and blend it in small batches, and add the natural mint last, so the tobacco is the base and the menthol is the finish. Menthol Tobacco moves through the same nine steps as every Black Note blend, and from field to bottle the full process can take up to three years. That time, plus small-batch extraction from real leaf, is the product difference behind the price.

The tobacco underneath ours is far older. Oriental tobacco has been grown around the Aegean since the early 1600s: small leaves, sun-cured in the open air, prized for aroma, the leaf that gives classic cigarette blends their fragrance. We chose it as the base for menthol because its lightness lets the mint sit on top without a fight.

Menthol Tobacco was one of the five blends Black Note launched with on January 25, 2015, under the name Solo. The page address still says menthol, but some longtime customers still order “Solo.” Same blend, same liquid.
